Training of visual selective attention in older adults
Frydrychová, Zuzana ; Georgi, Hana (advisor) ; Jarolímová, Eva (referee) ; Špatenková, Naděžda (referee)
Introduction: The effect of cognitive training on cognitive performance has been of interest to researchers for many years. Training is most often targeted at attention, working memory, or executive functions that are affected by age. The goal is usually not only to test whether it is possible to improve performance on the trained task, but also on other untrained tasks that are assumed to be related to the trained task. Given the aging of the population, these interventions are increasingly targeting the older adults. Aim: The study aims to examine the effects of training visual selective attention and working memory using Filter It - our version of the canonical Change Detection Task (CDT) for a mobile device, the tablet. Method: The sample consisted of 62 older adults aged 60-75 years, who were divided into experimental and active control group through the block randomization. The experimental group trained using the Filter It application, and the active control group trained using the Clouds application. The aim was to examine the effectiveness of a 6-week individual visual adaptive CDT training administered on a tablet, in terms of specific training improvements (Filter It - Colors and Shapes paradigms) and transfer effect on measures of working memory (Letter Number Sequencing, Visual...

Řápková, Veronika ; Krivošíková, Mária (advisor) ; Frydrychová, Zuzana (referee)
BACHELOR THESIS ABSTRACT Name, Surname: Veronika Řápková Supervisor: Bc. Mária Krivošíková, M.Sc. Title: Memory Training Strategy for Patients after Acquired Brain Damage Abstract: This bachelor's thesis is focused on the training of memory strategies for patients after acquired brain damage. Acquired brain damage affects all components of the body. In the cognitive area memory disorders are most common which is reflected in the lives of individuals. Memory strategies can help people with memory problems live a self-sufficient and independent life. The thesis is divided into a theoretical and a practical part. The theoretical part focuses on acquired brain damage, memory and memory strategies. The practical part is processed in the form of two therapeutic case reports, which describe the history of patient, examination results, the course of therapies and the conclusion with recommendations. The frequency of therapies was determined twice a week for 45 minutes for eight weeks. The therapy included a daily home exercise lasting 45 minutes. Therapies focused on memory strategies that patients used or wanted to use. The aim of this bachelor thesis is to determine the most commonly used memory strategies in selected patients and to describe their training in occupational therapy. The working hypothesis was that...
