Wall Paintings in Pardubice Castle
Ferdus, Anna ; Nespěšná Hamsíková, Magdaléna (advisor) ; Royt, Jan (referee)
Wall Paintings in the Pardubice's Castle Bachelor thesis deals with early renaissance wall paintings in the Pardubice Castle. The paintings were created during the flourish and prosperous rule of Lords of Pernštejn dated between the end of second decade and the beginning of fourth decade of 16th century. After the summary of existing topical literature I focus on the noble family of Lord of Pernštejn and its main figures especially Vilém and his sons Vojtech and Jan of Pernštejn. The influence of Lords of Pernštejn on the Castle of Pardubice and its vicinity starts with the acquisition of the estate in 1491 and continues till its sale to the Royal Chamber in 1560. Main part of my thesis consists of detailed description of wall paintings located in South, East and North wings of the Castle, mostly on first and second floors. Creation of the original paintworks could be split into two phases. The first phase, during the final years of rule of Vilém of Pernštejn, is still influenced by late Gothic style and early Renaissance impulses. The second phase, under the rule of Vojtech and later of Jan, is heavily shaped by early Renaissance already. The final part gathers the results of the restoration works carried on wall paintings during 20th century. Keywords: wall paintings, castle, Pardubice, Lords...
