Mathematical Search Engine
Mišutka, Jozef ; Galamboš, Leo (advisor) ; Dvorský, Jiří (referee) ; Kohlhase, Michael (referee)
Mathematics has been used to describe phenomena and problems in many re- search fields for centuries. The basic elements used in the description are formu- lae which express information symbolically. However, searching for mathematical knowledge in digital form using available tools is still cumbersome. We address this issue by presenting the mathematical search engine EgoMath, based on a full text searching, which can search for mathematical formulae and text. We perform an eval- uation over a large collection of documents showing that our solution is usable. Our approach can be used with huge document collections by applying one specialised technique. In order to provide a valuable evaluation of the quality, we built an al- ternative mathematical search engine using the feature extraction technique proposed by Ma et al. We propose important improvements to this solution achieving interest- ing results. We perform the first ever cross-evaluation of mathematical search engines based on different algorithms. A comprehensive survey of existing techniques avail- able, presented in this thesis, completes the picture of mathematical searching.
Sacred Objects in Arts and Crafts of Rudolf II. Types and Iconography
Slanina, Ondřej ; Nespěšná Hamsíková, Magdaléna (advisor) ; Dvorský, Jiří (referee)
When Emperor Rudolf II. moved to Prague with his court, city became one of the most important centers in Europe. The cultural aspirations of the new Emperor led to organizing a large collection with the great things from categories artificialia, naturalia, scientifica and to invitation of extraordinary craftsmen from the whole Europe. Masters of art and crafts were also invited on special decrees. Masters of art and crafts made very specific types in sacred way. Firstly there were small home altars with original commessi made by family of Castrucci and Miseroni in combination with other materials and cooperation with the other craftsmen. Further there were portrait medals by family of Abondio, gems - first of all by Ottavio Miseroni and Alessandro Masnago with assemblys by Jan Vermeyen and Andreas Osenbruck, commessi di pietre dure with sacred themes in fantastic and real landscapes by Castrucci family, plaquettes by Paulus von Vianen, statues by Ottavio Miseroni, chalices, crucifixes and monstrances. There were also very important handstones (handstein) with the sculpture solution of origin material with sacred themes. Further Emperor very appreciated original mosaics from various kinds of exotic birds with sacred themes from Mexico. This type of work has iris effect. There were also very important...
Syllable-Based Compression
Lánský, Jan ; Pokorný, Jaroslav (advisor) ; Dvorský, Jiří (referee) ; Grabowski, Szymon (referee)
Classic textual compression methods work over the alphabet of characters or alphabet of words. For languages with rich morphology as well as for compression of smaller files it can be advantageous to use an alphabet of syllables. For some compression methods like the ones based on Burrows-Wheeler transformation the syllable is a reasonable solution also for large files - even for languages having quite simple morphology. Although the main goal of our research is the compression over the alphabet of syllables, all implemented methods can compress also over the alphabet of words. For small files we use the LZW method and Huffman coding. These methods were improved by the use of initialized dictionary containing characteristic syllables specific for given language. For the compression of very large files we implemented the project XBW allowing combination of compression methods BWT, MTF, RLE, PPM, LZC, and LZSS. We have also tried to compress XML files that are not well-formed. When compressing over a large alphabet, it is necessary to compress also the used alphabet. We have proposed two solutions. The first one works well especially for small documents. We initialize the compression method with a set of characteristic syllables whereas other syllables are coded when necessary character by character. The...

Title: Suffix Graphs and Lossless Data Compression Author: Martin Senft Department: Department of Software and Computer Science Education Supervisor of the doctoral thesis: doc. RNDr. Tomáš Dvorˇák, CSc., Depart- ment of Software and Computer Science Education Abstract: Suffix tree and its variants are widely studied data structures that enable an efficient solution to a number of string problems, but also serve for implementation of data compression algorithms. This work explores the opposite approach: design of compression methods, based entirely on prop- erties of suffix graphs. We describe a unified construction algorithm for suf- fix trie, suffix tree, DAWG and CDAWG, accompanied by analysis of implicit suffix link simulation that yields two practical alternatives. Since the com- pression applications require maintaining text in the sliding window, an in- depth discussionof slidingsuffixgraphsisneeded. Fillinggapsin previously published proofs, we verify that suffix tree is capable of perfect sliding in amortised constant time. On the other hand, we show that this is not the case with CDAWG, thus resolving a problem of Inenaga et al. Building on these investigations,we describea family of data compression methods, based on a description of suffix tree construction for the string to be compressed. While some of...
