Kovářová, Kateřina ; Drbohlav, Dušan (advisor) ; Schroth, Jan (referee)
Analysis of Czech return migration and social remittances - A case study of Ireland Abstract The thesis connects two relatively young concepts - social remittance and return migration, both happening on the background of transnationalism. This Master's Thesis is a case study of Czech migration to Ireland. The thesis aims to identify the return motives and the so-called breaking point - when and under what circumstances the decision to return is made, whether there is a potential for the transfer of social remittances to the non-migrant population in the country of origin and how migration strategies, acquisition and the spread of social remittances differ for low-skilled and high-skilled migrants. The research is based on a qualitative approach. It allows a deeper and closer understanding of the return motives, transnational relations, the acquisition, transfer and impact of social remittances, their character and mutual connections among the selected group of informants. For that reason, the research method uses semi- structured interviews with two groups of informants - the Czechs living in Ireland and the Czechs who already returned from Ireland to the Czech Republic. The results of the research reflect potential and actual remittances and motives for the return of both mentioned groups. At the same...

Potential migration of medical students with special regard to the influence of institutions versus family and other personal networks
Šimůnek, Michal ; Drbohlav, Dušan (advisor) ; Dzúrová, Dagmar (referee)
International migration and recruitment of medical staff are receiving increasingly higher levels of attention. Especially since the Covid-19 pandemic, which broke out at the beginning of 2020, has brought attention to the global shortage of medical practitioners. Czechia has insufficient numbers of medical doctors and the country's age distribution for the profession is inadequate. Hence, within the Czech healthcare system, the migration of medical practitioners abroad is considered a relatively critical issue, particularly concerning young doctors and recent medical graduates. This diploma thesis examines the potential migration of medical students focusing on the influence of institutions as opposed to familial or other personal networks; these fulfil an important role in relation to the patterns of migration. The goal is to determine the probability of medical students' intention to migrate abroad for work. The thesis also aims to establish to what extent this migration is realistic. Part of the research focuses on the study of other selected characteristics, such as motives for leaving, length of migration, target destinations, or barriers that inhibit the move abroad. The aims of the study are analysed using a quantitative method based on answers to a self- developed semi-structured...

9 Abstract International Migration. Professional Footballers in the Czech 1st Division Michal Matušík In the present time the extent of the phenomenon of international migration of sports labour has increased significantly. That is why it has become the subject of academic research. However, this phenomenon is accompanying the history of the football, in principal, since 1920s. In the theoretical part, the thesis treats migration in the sports in general. Drawing on existing, somewhat scarce literature, on the subject, it presents typologies of sports migrants. Further, it gives theoretical concepts of international migration applicable to the sphere of sports. The thesis notes also some aspects of international migration from the point of view of the sports law. The aim of the thesis is to analyse the migration of foreign footballers to the Czech Republic. To create a framework for that, a general history of the international migration in football is resumed in brief. In empirical part of the thesis, a survey of the foreign footballers in the Czech 1st Division in the period 1993/1994 - 2006/2007 is presented. Migration policy of Czech republic and Great Britain, with a view to a labour-migration
Bártková, Vendula ; Drbohlav, Dušan (advisor) ; Schroth, Jan (referee)
This diploma paper deals with the migration problemacy and it primarily focuses on one of the most important elements, which affect migration - i.e. migration policy. We may polemize about the actual influence of migration policies on the final size and structure of migration flows, about the effectivity in fulfilling of their objectives; however we must agree on the fact, that migration policies represent an important factor, which affects migration movements. In this work we therefor aim to explain how migration policy arises, what influences its formation and shape and what kind of instruments we may subsequently use to value its fruitfulness. Seeing that in current time the labourmigration is the most common type of the total migration, we focused on the actual situation in the labour-migration policy and we were trying to find out which kind of instruments are used in this area as well as what types of programmes are offered. We pay attention to this problemacy not just from the view of Czech republic, but furthermore from the position of Great Britain, because we presume, that because of its history Britain has multiyear experience in this area, so thus it can be a great source of inspiration for Czech republic.
