Name: Methods evaluating obesity degree in subjects with spinal cord injury The aim of the thesis: The aim of this work is to evaulate the degree of obesity in individuals after spinal cord injury using BMI for ordinary population, BMI adjusted for individuals after spinal cord injury and a percentage of body fat. Metodology: This is an empirical-theoretical work comparing the number of obese individuals after spinal cord injury with the use of different evaluation methods. 200 subjects after spinal cord injury (141 men, 59 women) were enrolled to the reasearch. The percentage of body fat was assessed using the BODYSAT 1500 device. BMI was calculated from body height and weight of the individuals. Results: The processing and subsequent evaluation of the measured data according to different methods found that more than half of the subjects fall into the category of overweight or obesity. In gender comparison, it was found that the majority of male subjecs are overweight or obese. On the other hand, most of the female subjects showed normal weight. It has also been found that paraplegics are more affected by obesity than subjects with tetraplegia (tetraparase).
