Environemental Refugees at the Beginning of the 21st Century

Práce se zabývá vazbou mezi životním prostředím, migrací a konfliktem Specifická pozornost je také věnována tzv. "environmentálním uprchlíkům" jako novému a hojně diskutovanému fenoménu v rámci této problematiky. Tato problematika je v České republice poměrně málo známým a málo diskutovaným tématem, a v češtině je k němu k dispozici jen velmi omezená literatura. Dalším cílem práce je tedy snaha zmapovat dosavadní výzkum k tomuto tématu na základě dostupné zahraniční literatury. Práce hledá odpověď na tyto hlavní otázky: Mohou enviromentální změny způsobit migraci? A pokud ano, je tato vazba kauzálně přímá, nebo zde hrají roli i další faktory? Může migrace vyvolaná enviromentálními změnami způsobit konflikt ohrožující světovou bezpečnost? Je vazba mezi enviromentálními změnami a konfliktem kauzálně přímá nebo ji ovlivňují i další faktory? Je volání po řešení otázky "environmentálních uprchlíků", jako opomíjené skupiny bez dostatečné mezinárodní ochrany a pomoci, oprávněné? Je správné a žádoucí samotné užití pojmu "environmentální uprchlík"?

World Bank as an International Environmental Organisation?

On the background of the world's evolving view of the terms "environment" and "development", I am analysing the ways the World Bank reacted to this process of evolution, and its reactions to the criticisms aimed on the World Bank's environmental activities. I am analysing the reasons for and outcomes of the World Bank's reforms performed in reaction to that evolution. I am shortly outlining the Principal - Agent model, which I am then applying to the World Bank's case.

Global Environmental Agreements and Their Effectiveness

This diploma thesis deals with global environmental agreements and their effectiveness. Its aim is to disclose the causes of success of some agreements and, on the contrary, the motives of failure of other agreements. In the theoretical part, the specialities of the environmental problems are illustrated, followed by the introduction to the international environmental law and agreements. In the practical part, two well-known international agreements concerned with atmosphere are compared. They deal with similar problem, but they achieved very different results. The objective of step-by-step comparison of diverse aspects of both agreements is to discover what factors caused the great success of the Montreal Protocol in protecting the ozone layer and why the similarly conceived Kyoto Protocol failed in the combat against climate change. Last chapter concludes this comparison and defines key characteristics which are essential for the effectiveness of the global environmental agreements.

Climate change problems in the context of Czech foreign policy

The theoretical part of the diploma thesis concerns the definition of the climate change problems and the history of their reflection in the international politics. The second chapter analyses attitudes and positions of Czech political representation as a reaction on internationally important documents, attitudes and negotiations. The third and fourth chapter discuss the basic drivers that have impacts on Czech domestic political discussion on the field of climate change and its consequences on the international scene. These are analyzed on the level of three main political subjects: the Government reflects the matter in a general context, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs reacts on it mostly on the conceptual level in connection with other foreign policy matters, and the Ministry of Environment takes most responsibility as a crucial organization, which works on documents and concrete actions. The thesis also contains an analysis of further domestic subjects (organizations or individuals) that influence the discussion about climate change. The aim of the thesis is to analyze attitudes of Czech political representation on the field of climate change problems, and to analyze specifically the question, whether the attitudes are determined by a passive approach (in the sense of automatic acceptance of international obligations) or by an active approach, when the Czech republic itself has a need to reflect the problems from the normative point of view.

Změny klimatu a jejich možný dopad na mezinárodní politiku a bezpečnost v 21. století

Práce je zaměřená na problematiku klimatických změn jakožto aktuálního fenoménu, viděnou z pohledu dopadů na mezinárodní bezpečnost. Cílem práce je prezentovat téma klimatických změn právě v bezpečnostních souvislostech a nastínit, kde a jak se mohou dopady projevit. První kapitola charakterizuje pojem environmentální bezpečnosti a jeho souvislost s klimatickými změnami. V druhé kapitole je představen vývoj mezinárodních aktivit v oblasti klimatických změn. Třetí kapitola nastiňuje možné dopady, které změny klimatu na bezpečnost mohou mít a v poslední kapitole jsou rovnány postoje hlavních aktérů, jmenovitě EU a USA, a jejich rozdílnosti v přístupu k řešení. Závěr je shrnutím všech výše získaných poznatků.

Role státu při prosazování politicko-ekonomických zájmů v zahraničí

Cílem diplomové práce je analýza významu ekonomické diplomacie pro fungování státu v globalizovaném světě. Práce obsahuje definici zahraniční politiky, nástroje které používá a věnuje se také novým aktérům mezinárodních vztahů. V souvislosti s rostoucím významem zahraničních investic pro ekonomickou prosperitu státu jsou rozebrány systémy institucionálního uspořádání ekonomické diplomacie v různých zemích s důrazem na podpůrné organizace v ČR. Hlavním tématem je poté rozbor problematiky zahraničních investic a jejich významu pro stát.
