Landscape, settlements and monuments in Georg II. Buquoy’s diary from the italian journey in 1839 and 1840
Binder, Filip
The paper is dedicated to Count Georg II. Buquoy and his Italian journey of 1839 and 1840, which the text traces on the basis of the Count's letters addressed to his mother Gabriele, transcribed to form a travel diary. The text attempts to penetrate the thought-world of the aristocrat, who was 25 years old at the time of the journey, and examines how Buquoy reflected on the landscape, architecture, art and towns or the seats of nobility rulers during the expedition. The study also asks whether the information contained in Georg's correspondence, or rather in the letters of the aristocrat correlate with the results of recent historical and art historical research presenting Buquoy as an aristocrat whose romantic disposition was reflected in his activities, first of all in his artistic activities, documented by surviving sketchbooks, and also in the reconstruction of the castle in Rožmberk and the creation of the family museum there and alteration of the landscape parks founded by his ancestors. By analyzing the diary and the excerpts contained therein, it was possible to highlight the sentimental elements in the text of the count, who wrote his mother about the deep feelings and emotions that nature and visits to towns and monuments and seeing art works evoked in him. This also gives his lines an added literary value, since the Count was not trying to give his mother a mere description of what he had seen and visited, but to inform her of the movements of his mind and of the atmosphere of the various places he visited during his journey. The diary also confirms Buquoy's strong and positive relationship with art, architecture and nature, but points out its limits.

Binder, Filip ; Maur, Eduard (referee)
This thesis deals with selected foreign journeys of Czech and Austrian nobility in the second half of the 18th and at the beginning 19th centuries and their influences and impacts. In addition to the general passages devoted to the travelling of nobility from the 16th to the middle of the 18th centuries and to the expeditions carried out during the period under review, attention is paid to five persons who have been divided into three groups based on their activities influenced by experience gained in foreign countries. The first of the circuits is connected with creating of landscape parks inspired by the ideas of 18th -century philosophy and expeditions to Great Britain and German territory, where the first picturesque gardens appeared. The relationship between travel and landscaping of the second half of the 18th and early 19th centuries is illustrated by the example of Johann Rudolf Czernin of Chudenice and his parks in Krásný Dvůr, Jemčina, Chudenice and Petrohrad or Alois I. Josef of Liechtenstein, whose name is connected with the arrangement of Lednice-Valtice area. Scientific motivated journeys represent the second group. Leopold I. Berchtold of Uherčice, who collected his knowledge of medicine and actively helped others during his journeys, was chosen as a suitable representative. The...

Hluboká Castle in 19. Century and Johann Adolf zu Schwarzenberg
Binder, Filip ; Županič, Jan (advisor) ; Kuthan, Jiří (referee)
The thesis deals with historicism in architecture using the example of Prince Johann Adolf zu Schwarzenberg and Hluboká (Frauenberg) Castle, which Schwarzenberg rebuilt. The thesis also focuses on Prince's journeys through the British Isles, where the so called Gothic Revival arose and where Schwarzenberg took a look at many buildings influenced by this phenomenon. The next chapter is concerned with the reconstruction of Hluboká Castle inspired by romantic historicism, which began shortly after Prince's return from the second journey and which created from the castle one of the most majestic family seats of nobility in the Habsburg Monarchy. The study deals with the conception of the castle as a "family museum", symbolism that can be seen in this "museum", other building projects influenced by Schwarzenberg's Hluboká and the relation between early capitalism and historicism in connection with Johann Adolf's entrepreneurial activities, too. It is also one of the tasks to describe all these facts in the broader context of the 19th century, whose circumstances caused the development of romanticism and historicism. That is why not only Schwarzenberg and Hluboká will be mentioned, but also other seats of aristocracy and their creators. The primary sources consist of Prince's two travel diaries, which...
