Symbolism of language in Subcomandante Marcos's tales Relatos de El Viejo Antonio and its importance in the communication of Zapatistas with the world
Šilarová, Johanna ; Kazmar, Vít (advisor) ; Housková, Anna (referee)
(anglicky) Communication between two cultures must include not only knowledge of the language, but also an effort to understand the thinking, perception and understanding of the world of "the other". In the case of the Zapatista movement, it is Subcomandante Marcos who plays the role of interpreter of words, ideas, ideology and worldview between the world of the Mayan rebels and the world of Western civilization. The aim of this thesis is to look at Marcos's short stories Relatos de El Viejo Antonio as a tool of communication between these two worlds, and then specifically to analyze the symbolism of language and its various forms and symbolic functions in different contexts.
