Automation of production lines: an ethical point of view
Ježek, Jan ; Sousedík, Prokop (advisor) ; Šolcová, Kateřina (referee)
Through automation and robotization, factories are trying to eliminate the participation of human labour in their production, with goal to have efficient production and higher profits. The thesis focuses mainly on the consequences of automation. The first part of the thesis characterizes the process of automation itself and its historical development. It shows the advantages and problems of automation. The second part focuses on the process from a sociological point of view, i.e., the implications for the lives of workers. The main part is an examination of the process from an ethical point of view. I focus primarily on the dignity of work, the meaning of work, business ethics, corporate codes of ethics and ethical values.
Ethics and artificial intelligence
Švarcová, Kateřina ; Sousedík, Prokop (advisor) ; Šolcová, Kateřina (referee)
The thesis focuses on the ethics of artificial intelligence (AI). It is organized into three main parts. The first part describes the basic concepts. There are explained in particularthe basic principles of algorithms and the functioning of AI from a technical point of view. In the next part, the thesis uses texts by J.R. Searle and J. Peregrine to compare AI and human thinking from a philosophical perspective. From this section it is concluded that AI is a machine and as such has no moral responsibility. The moral responsibility in working with AI lies with humans, that is, the developers of AI and its users. This is addressed in the third part of the thesis, where various current moral issues are presented and basic ethical principles for AI work and development are established based on utilitarian and deontological orientations.
Philosophical Perspective of Humanist Discourse on History: Ars Historica in Patrizi's and Pontano's Dialogues
Šolcová, Kateřina
The renaissance revival of classical learning raised an interest in history that found expression in a new literary genre, ars historica. In this contribution I provide an analysis of two ars historica examples: The dialogue Actius (written around 1499) by the Neapolitan humanist Giovanni Pontano (1426-1503), which emphasized the literary context of history, and Francesco Patrizi’s (1529-1597) Della historia. Dieci dialoghi (1560), underscoring the appropriate method with focus on the true motivations of historical events. A comparison of these two remarkable works will show in which features the humanist authors anticipated the future development that elevated history to a conceptually independent discipline.
Jan Karafiat in the Context of his Time
ŠOLCOVÁ, Kateřina
This essay deals with the life and work of the Czech Protestant clergyman Jan Karafiát(1846-1929) and specifically with his editorial and theological activities. Between the years (1896-1905) he published his own theological magazine Reformované listy, where he criticized the ideas of liberal theology that influenced the Czech Protestants around the turn of 19th and 20th Centuries. Here he confronted T.G.Masaryk's ideas.Interesting is his original response to Masaryk's philosophy of Czech history
