Possession in Czech Sign Language
Šestáková, Markéta ; Macurová, Alena (advisor) ; Škodová, Svatava (referee)
The thesis describes the ways of expressing possessiveness in Czech sign language, using a replication of the research described in Possessive and existential constructions in sign languages (Zeshan - Perniss, 2008), which is a part of a series formulating the first findings concerning the typology of sign languages. The first parts of the paper pay attention to the theoretical context - the category of possessiveness and the definition of some basic terms, the theory of universals, linguistic typology in general and the typology of sign languages. Then, the initial publication (Zeshan - Perniss, 2008) is presented - its theoretical background (attributive and predicative constructions, alienable and inalienable possession, event schemas), research design (questionnaire and elicitation materials) and the results the authors arrived at based on data from 28 sign languages. The research on possessiveness in Czech sign language was conducted in two phases: 1) an interview with a linguistically educated native speaker based on the questionnaire presented in the initial publication (Zeshan - Perniss, 2008), 2) elicitation of possessive constructions from twelve respondents (six pairs) who were given the elicitation tasks used in the initial research (Zeshan - Perniss, 2008). Based on the analysis of the...
Principles of Initialization in Formation of Anthroponyms in Czech Sign Language
Šestáková, Markéta ; Prokšová, Hana (advisor) ; Nováková, Radka (referee)
This bachelor's thesis analyses the formal aspects of initialization in formation of anthroponyms in Czech sign language. The main objective is to describe how the initials are modified in comparison to the manual alphabet. The first part of the thesis is more focused on theory. Firstly, it deals with the topic of proper nouns in spoken Czech, focus being anthroponyms (especially given names and surnames). Then the author focuses on the topic of initialization and related terminology (two approaches to initialization, local lexicalization, single manual letter signs etc.) and manual alphabet. After that, based on the diploma thesis by Radka Faltínová (2005), the author describes the most common types of name signs in Czech sign language. The material used in the research part of this thesis was taken from the news programme in Czech sign language (Zprávy v českém znakovém jazyce) because of the high concentration of anthroponyms. In the first part of the research, the author analyses all productions of anthroponyms and puts them into categories based on the ways in which they were formed - there are some types that aren't commonly used in regular communication. The second part of the research focuses only on initials and the author identifies the ways the initials are modified in comparison to the...
Risk Behaviour from the Staffs´ Perspective of the Authority Children´s Protection.
ŠESTÁKOVÁ, Markéta
The bachelor thesis deals with the high - risk behaviour from the staffs´ perspective of the authority children´s protection. The goal of my bachelor thesis was to find out the typical forms of risky behaviour which the officials of the authority of children´s social care law most often encounter and whether the personnel authority of children´s social care law perceive eating disorders as a risky behaviour. In connection with these objectives, I have set the following hypotheses as follows: The officials of the authority of children´s social care law encounter with all nine types of risky behaviour and eating disorders are perceived by the officials of the authority of children´s social care law as a risky behaviour. For processing the data in the empirical part I have chosen the quantitative research, which proceeded with the use of questionnaire enquiry. The research sample consisted of fourteen social workers, specifically curators for children and youth operating on the authority of children´s social care law in the South Bohemian Region. The results show that the officials of children´s social care law most often encounter truancy of their clients, then bullying, cyber bullying, sexual risky behaviour and substance dependence. The responses show that risky behaviour occurs more often in extracurricular environment. The majority of responders are inclined to think of the primary prevention of risky behaviour in the education system as not sufficient. In connection with the second aim, which is focused on eating disorders, the most of the respondents said they agreed with the inclusion of eating disorders to risk-taking behaviour. For the most common eating disorder they encounter is anorexia nervosa as they marked. In their point of view is not, in the context of prevention at schools, taken sufficient account of the issue of eating disorders and the risks associated with them. Among their clients who got ill from eating disorder, most often cooperate with their families or refer to appropriate professional help. Based on these results, it should be noted that the first hypothesis with the results diverges, whereas the second hypothesis is with them in correspond. The research results could serve as an information material for the officials of the authority of children´s social care law. Furthermore, it is possible to embrace the basis for the educators working with at-risk group of pupils. They can also be beneficial for the improvement of cooperation between the school and the official of the social services or between educators in the creation of the minimum preventive programme.
