Intergroup threats on the Facebook page Tomio Okamura - SPD: the case of the Ukrainian refugee wave
Čandová, Irena ; Bořil, Vít (advisor) ; Lepič, Martin (referee)
The aim of the thesis is to identify the use of intergroup threats on the Facebook page of Tomio Okamura - SPD. The work is framed by the theory of intergroup threat. Its central concept - the intergroup threat - was investigated using the method of directed content analysis of Facebook posts. It was expected that the thesis, on the basis of an appropriate operationalisation of the theory, would highlight the main ways in which the SPD and Tomio Okamura portray Ukrainian refugees as a threat to the Czech population. During the first phase of the refugee wave from the beginning of the invasion until mid-May 2022, a total of six subcategories of realistic threats in relation to Ukrainian refugees appeared in the texts. These threats were used in 15 % of all analysed Facebook posts. Very often the threats occurred in the context of criticism of the current government. Other themes used in the context of threats included health, education, housing, social tensions, maladjustment and Roma. There was not a single positive message in relation to Ukrainian refugees. Key words: intergroup threat, Facebook, SPD, Tomio Okamura, Ukraine, refugees
