Senior citizens were chosen because of the growing importance of this age group in the light of aging populations. The theoretical part describes and explains the demographic and social context with respect to the aging population in Spain, specifically in Galicia. It also deals with the history, development and philosophy of the Aulas, offers a description and comparison of the individual third age education institutions that can be found in Galicia. A special chapter is devoted to the social work and sociocultural animation in the Aulas in Santiago de Compostela, focusing on activating and intercultural programs and computer courses. The practical part presents a survey looking into participant satisfaction.
