Jorge de Montemayor and the Diana: a pastoral romance or mysticism?
Juračková, Pavlína ; Sánchez Fernández, Juan Antonio (advisor) ; Housková, Anna (referee)
Writer Jorge de Montemayor wrote in the Spanish 16th century. History of literature is mainly interested in his last book Los siete libros de la Diana (The Seven Books of Diana) which is traditionally called the first pastoral romance written in the Iberian Peninsula. Concurrently, most studies explain the book from the same perspective, which works with the big artistic period (Renaissance) and artistic genre (the pastoral romance). If we focus on Jorge de Montemayor's book from a different view - which is connected with period situation (problems of converso, the Inquisition, the heterodoxy's opinions or book censorship) and which takes the author's previous texts in consideration - we are able to reread his work. This thesis seeks to use ideas coming from New Historicism. Using period situation Montemayor's texts set out to explain that Los siete libros de la Diana is closer to the spiritual way of mysticism than to literary form such as the pastoral romance.

The visible and the invisible in the work of José Ángel Valente
Melicharová, Anna ; Sánchez Fernández, Juan Antonio (advisor) ; Housková, Anna (referee)
This thesis follows a topic of visible and invisible in the poetry and the essays of the Spanish writer active in the second half of the 20th century, José Ángel Valente. It situates the author in his historical and literary context and presents the evolution of his work. After that, it focuses on three of Valente's sources of inspiration and it outlines the conception of speech and artwork in Heidegger, the approach to space of sculptor Eduardo Chillida and the work with matter of painter Antoni Tàpies. The visible and the invisible are indirectly observed in Valente by means of more or less concrete representation and relationship to the reality, in visual characteristics, such as light and darkness, colours and shapes, and in the problematics of the sight. The visibility, the invisibility and the transparency directly manifest themselves in Valente's conception of matter and form and the word's manifestation and they also appear as motifs in his texts.

Irony and tragedy in El Castigo sin venganzEl Castigo sin venganzaa
Roubalová, Kristýna ; Sánchez Fernández, Juan Antonio (advisor) ; Poláková, Dora (referee)
This work deals with the issue of the literary genre of the work El Castigo sin venganza written by Lope de Vega. Within his theatrical production, I emphasize this work, because, in my opinion, it is distinguished from other author's works by many timeless and modern components, which make it remarkable and unique. The work focuses on the analysis of the main topics of the work, for example love and honour, but it is also concerned with the social and cultural issue regarding the Spanish society of the XVI. and XVII. century, the position of woman in this society and in marriage, as well as the formal analysis of applied aesthetic and literary elements, which confirm the ambiguousness of the genre of this work. What is El Castigo sin venganza? A tragedy, a comedy or a modern tragedy? The main tool for the solution of this delicate question is an irony, whose concept and role in this drama is the base of this work. This work called "The irony and tragedy in El Castigo sin venganza"primarily focuses on the solution of the unclear question about the genre of the work whose author is Lope de Vega, a well-known dramaturge of the Golden Age. As its title suggests, the main means/tool of the achievement of the goal of this work is the irony, the modern element which is continuously presented in the whole...

In the practical part of work is explained the importance and the specific position of poetry,...

The aim of this work is to describe the development of literary works of well-known Spanish writer Antonio Muñoz Molina on the basis of an analysis of his selected novels, which were published in the period up to the year 2000. They are Beatus Ille, El invierno en Lisboa, Beltenebros, El jinete polaco, Ardor guerrero and Plenilunio. In the introductory part of this thesis we briefly summarize the development of the Spanish novel, which occurred between the sixties and the eighties of the 20th century. This theoretical part will be followed up with the analysis of the author's works. Selected novels will be divided into three groups, which also correspond to the three main creative periods through which Muñoz Molina's work has passed. Within each chapter, we first describe the specifics of the set creative periods and then analyze all the novels we have included in that chapter. When distributing the novels to individual units, the chronological order in which they were published will be preserved in order to obtain the most accurate picture of the development that the author's creation has undergone. In the end, we summarize the defined creative periods and set the trends that Antonio Muñoz Molina is constantly returning in his novels.

Dvořáková, Veronika ; Sánchez Fernández, Juan Antonio (advisor) ; Poláková, Dora (referee)
The aim of the present Master`s Degree Thesis is to make an approximation to the Basque theme in the selected works of Pío Baroja. Concretely, it`s close to twenty short stories and the novels of the tetralogy Tierra vasca (Basque country), namely, La casa de Aizgorri, Zalacaín el aventurero, La leyenda de Jaun de Alzate y El mayorazgo de Labraz. First, the San Sebastian writer`s relation with the Basque country is presented, as well as his vision of his fatherland in the history context. Second, the presence of the Basque language - as known as euskera - in the works is described, as in the vocabulary, the onomastic or for example in phrases or in popular songs. Third, we study concrete Basque motives, such as the landscape, the cities and towns, the people, the history or the Basque sorcery and mythology.
