Assessment of the efficiency of various consolidation agents based on the evaluation of changes of material properties of plaster from the Imperial Palace in the Karlštejn Castle
Slížková, Zuzana ; Drdácký, Miloš ; Hasníková, Hana ; Frankeová, Dita
The report describes the procedure of assessment of efficiency of four consolidation agents used on plaster from the Imperial Palace in the Karlštejn Castle. It includes photographic documentation and all the results with final evaluation and conclusion. Three non-destructive methods were used in-situ in the Karlštejn Castle – water absorption measurement by Karsten tube, water absorption measurement by microtube and so called peeling test. The locations and way of taking samples are mentioned in the report also. Mechanical tests, (compression test, three point bending test) have been performed on the samples and also bulk density, open porosity and water absorption of treated and untreated material according to ČSN EN 1015-10 have been investigated in laboratories of ITAM AS CR.
A survey of the mortuary in Ostrovec at Velečín
Slížková, Zuzana ; Frankeová, Dita ; Petráňová, Veronika ; Zeman, Antonín ; Hauková, Petra ; Mácová, Petra ; Niedoba, Krzysztof ; Viani, Alberto ; Pérez-Estébanez, Marta ; Zíma, Pavel ; Janotová, Dana
This report presents the results of a survey of the mortuary object in Ostrovec by Velečín which has been selected for testing the samples of plaster developed in the project MK NAKI DF11P01OVV008 (High-performance and compatible lime mortars for extreme application in restoration, repair and preventive maintenance of architectural heritage). The survey focuses on the plinth of the morgue, where the plaster repeatedly freezes and falls off after one winter season. Causes of failure of the repairs plasters and material composition of were examined by following techniques:x-ray diffraction (XRD), thermal analysis (TG), optic and electron microscopy, FTIR and Raman spectroscopy.
Material characteristics of the grouts used for Charles Bridge sandstone blocks reparation. Technical report
Slížková, Zuzana ; Frankeová, Dita ; Rovnaníková, P.
Three following samples of grouts were analysed: sample KM 1 – grey-coloured infill of Hořice sandstone, with aggregate(Fig. 1). Sample KM 2 – grey-coloured grout from Božanov sandstone ashlar, with cracks filled by white powder (Fig. 2). Sample KM 3 – light brown material with shell-like cracks and grey inhomogeneous zones (Fig. 3).
Material characteristics assessment of the stone sample from the decorative vase. Technical report
Slížková, Zuzana ; Zeman, Antonín ; Petráňová, Veronika ; Niedoba, Krzysztof ; Janotová, Dana ; Hasníková, Hana ; Frankeová, Dita
Two polished petrographic thin section sized 4x11mm and 5x10 mm were examined under polarizing microscope Zeiss NU 2. Pictures were taken by Olympus T 5060 camera.
Impact of metakaolin and linseed oil addition on lime mortar characteristics
Slížková, Zuzana ; Janotová, Dana ; Nunes, Cristiana Lara ; Frankeová, Dita
.: The report presents results of testing of lime mortar laboratory specimens. Mechanical characteristics, porosity, resistance to frost and salt damage were determined and evaluated considering the chemical composition of mortars (metakaolin and linseed oil addition) as well as the age of hardened mortars.
Effect of linseed oil on the mechanical properties of lime mortars
Nunes, Cristiana Lara ; Slížková, Zuzana ; Janotová, Dana ; Frankeová, Dita
The effect of linseed oil addition in 1.5% by the weight of the binder was studied in two different mortar mixtures: air lime mortar and air lime-metakaolin mortar. Carbonation and hydration reactions were studied by thermogravimetric analysis and flexural and compressive strength were evaluated along curing time: 14 -90 days.)
Analysis of mortar used for grouting of enclosure wall of St. Wenceslas church in Chlum near Třebíč
Slížková, Zuzana ; Drdácký, Miloš ; Hauková, Petra ; Frankeová, Dita ; Janotová, Dana ; Niedoba, Krzysztof ; Zeman, Antonín
Investor of building (Roman Catholic parish) asked ITAM AV ČR, v.v.i. for an analysis of wall mortar of the St. Wenceslas church in Chlum. The reason for this investigation carried out was the fact that the mortar applied to the wall in 2010 shows after winter disturbances, which reflected a lack of cohesion and adhesion of mortar to the substrate. The mortar is crumbling in many places, sometimes its fragments fall off. The investor asked for an analysis of the composition of applied mortar and the assessment of the suitability of materials for the construction.
Problems with the quality of lime mortars modified with metakaolin in the field of conservation of building heritage
Slížková, Zuzana ; Frankeová, Dita ; Hauková, Petra ; Janotová, Dana
The paper presents a case of failed application of air lime mortar modified with metakaolin as the replacement of decayed or missed render rep. jointing mortar from historic wall. Detailed material characterization of applied mortar results in determination of causes leading to low durability of mortar applied on historic walls.
Study of historic mortars from Charles Bridge
Slížková, Zuzana ; Drdácký, Miloš ; Frankeová, Dita ; Nosál, Libor ; Zeman, Antonín
Results from laboratory investigation of historic mortars sampled from masonry of Charles bridge in Prague are presented and disscused in the paper.
Identification of historic materials including small samples investigation
Slížková, Zuzana ; Drdácký, Miloš ; Frankeová, Dita
Paper reviews methods for determination of characteristics of historic materials which represents a very frequent task in conservation practice.
