Campus of Essler’s mills are located on the triangulas plot, which defines river Svitava. In addition to the building spinning-factory the studied area there are several other buildings, which due to its well-preserved elements and structures are becoming valuable and worth it to keep them. A new use spinning is a private school of architecture. I have kept the formel building for weaving and I use it for business and services. From street Fryčajova is the entrance to the minimarket, stationery, bookstore and copy center. On the other side of the pedestrian zone is the main entrance to the library. Another building is a house that has served as an administrative building and warehouse. Very interesting are brick-vaulted rooms on the ground floor, which I use as a wine cellar. Another floor of this building is offices. This building continues building hydropower plants, which maintain and I restores its function. In the following building is the multipurpose space for various courses and training, dining hall and the university club. The last building, which I preserve is a protected historical gallery building. There are apartments for teachers foreign or students, apartment for manager and technical room. New construction on the island are college for student. They are built from prefabricated cells COMA and simple steel structures roofed with corrugated iron roofs. The main idea of school work is based on the Regulations, which develops into the full freedom. School is for 100 students, therefore 50 students in each grade. Students will not be strictly separated, but rather should fade, draw from each experience and everyone should benefit from the building together. The first floor serves "all" - students and teachers, staff and other people who visited the building. In this floor could happen seminars, exhibitions, lectures, as well as various conferences, openings or other similar activities. In the entrance hall is a reception and the necessary space for relaxation. There is a service with a small snack for students or for example for conferences and for various gallery openings. In the secon floor is happening classical learning, verbal and written examinations. This part of the building no longer serves everyone, it is addressed to students, but everything is under the supervision of teachers and school management. There are also offices for teachers, for network administrators and the school hinterland - dean's office, secretaries, secretary and studies department. Included in this are again floor spaces to allow rest and spend free time. Additional floors are a little more closer to students. There are spaces for ateliers, which are divided shelf moving walls. Students can create their own interior as needed. It should be room for criticism, defense, etc. There are a pattern shop and a small study rooms too. Especially for students is the last floor. The area is completely freedom, without walls, also use the mobile racks, allowing variable division. There is a small kitchen, rest area, changing rooms and showers. This large open space is the most beautiful of the whole building. It is also suitable for holding matriculation, graduation, maybe even balls and other social events. The topic of the graduation thesis is the revitalization of the former textile manufacturing complex in the quarter Maloměřice and Obřany of the city of Brno and conversion of its main building, spinning mill, to the school of architecture. Urban design concept is based on several ideas. I tried to involve the complex into the life and urban structure of this part of Brno and to create a possible new center. I also tried to recognize the values and qualities of the area as a whole and of its individual components. I created zones, characterized by different interactions with the neighborhood. By the entrance into the area I place an object called “gate”, which should draw the attention of passers-by. It clearly guides to enter the island and later the school building. The central part of the island is cleaned from the later extensions and a new foreground of entry to school is formed there. This zone, which continues to the north over the old mill-race between the neighboring buildings, is public, communicates, but is clearly defined and has its own inner life. Third, semi-private area is a residential waterfront of the mill-race with the existing balcony-access house and a new housing for students. The fourth area is a public park, detached from the school entrance courtyard by the block of trees and connected to the village by a new foot bridge. The architectural design of the spinning-mill conversion is based on the concept of inserting new objects into existing autonomous structure of the house. The purity of the building and support structures is preserved. Through the insulation of the inserted objects the thermal comfort is achieved. In the building I leave free space, which is cut through all floors throughout the four chimneys of the stairs, sanitary facilities and installations. Into the individual fields of the concrete-frame construction I put rectangular boxes of different functions - classrooms, studios and offices. These are connected with the chimneys via electrical and ventilation lines. The existing building façade remains unchanged, it defines the internal space, it is a connecting element, rather than separating.

Student House in the Neighbourhood Old Brno

Old Brno as a centre of students‘ life. Culturally-social potential can be used for a development of education especially by virtue of creating sufficient social background for more intensive students‘ life in the centre of Brno. Regulation of problematic Mendel Square rectifies transportation and gives back recreational character of the area. It is connected with a conception of the student house as a combination of simple and low-cost living and background for students‘ leisure time. Top part of the Křížová Street is become a colonnade whose recreative importance is seconded by vertical swamps of the new student house.

Student House in the Neighbourhood Old Brno

The student housing project is located in the oldest town neighbourhoods in Brno. This location has undergone lot of changes over the course of time. My goal was to return to one of those phases, to create inner couryard with additional new funcions. The concept is based on the regulation plan issued for this location by magistrate of Brno city. The building comprises various types of student housing as well as flats and rentable areas. The shape of the building is formed by character of Křížová street and opposite buildings. From the inner side building turns to the side of the courtyard.
