In-vivo measurement of mechanical properties of biological materials
Čermáková, Viola ; Kuchařová, Monika (advisor) ; Klemera, Petr (referee)
Measurement of mechanical properties of many biological materials in vivo is based on the assumption that they can be considered as a visco-elastic body. This means that their mechanical properties under dynamic loading response partly to viscous and partly to elastic character. The visco-elastic biological materials include skin, blood walls, vessels, bones, tendons etc. Mechanical properties of biological materials depend on the structure of the material from the molecular to the macroscopic level. They also depend on age and health status of the organism. Obtaining of the standard values of mechanical parameters would be potentially useful as an indicators of functional age of organism also to study the influence of external factors (cosmetics, UV radiation) to changing the properties of biological materials and as well in terms of compatibility with artificial materials. To understand the ongoing processes in the skin, which was chosen as a biological material for measurement of mechanical properties in this thesis, the anatomical and physiological characteristic, including biochemical processes taking place in the synthesis of the main building components of the skin are needed to know. Aging of the skin is a complex biological phenomen consisting of two main parts of the so-called intrinsic...
Methods of measurement and evaluation of biological age
Řeháková, Štěpánka ; Klemera, Petr (advisor) ; Ďoubal, Stanislav (referee)
Charles University in Prague Faculty of Pharmacy in Hradec Králové Department of Biophysics and Physical Chemistry Candidate: Štěpánka Řeháková Supervisor: doc. RNDr. Petr Klemera, CSc. Title of diploma thesis: Methods of measurement and evaluation of biological age The theoretical part of this thesis deals with theories of aging, the concept of biological age, biomarkers of aging and the evaluation of various methods of determining of the biological age of people. Real data are evaluated in the practical part by using the program BIOLVEK. Simulated data with different selected parameters, generated and evaluated by program BIOLVEK, verify some characteristics of the methodology resulting from the theory. It is mainly about to assess the real possibility of estimating of the true variability of differences between biological and chronological age and about to what extent the inaccuracies of the estimate affect the error of estimate of biological age. Key words: biological age, biomarkers, estimation of biological age, aging
Biological age and its Influence Possibilities
Havranová, Jana ; Jezberová, Michaela (advisor) ; Klemera, Petr (referee)
BIOLOGICAL AGE AND ITS INFLUENCE POSSIBILITIES Biological age includes the changes which are related to the ageing. It can be influenced with environment, nutrition, lifestyle etc. Important factor of biological age is also psychical respectively spiritual part of lifestyle. It was proved people which meditate regularly have higher level of melatonin - the potentional marker of the biological age. The connection among the emotional intelligence quotient level, physical health and longevity was also found. Emotional intelligence development and meditation is with great success included into the studying programs at certain foreign high schools. The questionnaire study realized at Faculty of Pharmacy has shown that the students are exposed to stress during their studies, which has negative impact on their psychical and physical condition. The majority of these students are not able to deal effectively with the consequences of this kind of stress and they can appear as sleeping malfunction, capriciousness, nervousness, digesting problems etc. 46% of eighty respondents consider emotional control useful and thus they stimulate one of the factors which influence biological age. The students make an effort to moderate strain by sport, visiting friends etc. Emotional intelligence would help the students more...
Influence of the Age and Other Factors on the Estrogen and Progesteron Receptor Ratio (ER/PR) in Breast Cancer
Hanáková, Tereza ; Hochmann, Jiří (advisor) ; Klemera, Petr (referee)
2. Summary Tereza Hanáková Influence of the age and other factors on the estrogen and progesteron receptor ratio (ER/PR) in breast cancer Rigorous thesis Charles university in Prague, Faculty of Pharmacy in Hradec Králové Pharmacy In this rigorous thesis we dealt with ER/PR ratio of patiets in the breast cancer and we tried to point out its importance for making the diagnostics more accurate. We compared the curves in the graphs of hospitals in Pardubice, Náchod and Hradec Králové by the help of methods that exploited medians of the neighbouring - mutually overlapping groups of patients. In these graphs we were noticing the similar or on the contrary different features and also abnormalities and we tried to explain the reason of these events. It is important to define the optimal ER/PR value and determine the boundary of the dangerously low or high ER/PR ratio, because the extreme increase of this quotient as well as too low of ER/PR ratio make the prognosis worse. The ER/PR quotient should represent the comming of the menopause more accuratelly than ER alone, because during low estradiol production not only concentration of ER, but also the extent of the whole ER/PR quotient rises, but in the addition, this ER/PR quotient rises together with the decrease of PR in the denominator. On the contrary, the...
Biomechanics of veins and vein's substitutes
Stošek, Zdeněk ; Ďoubal, Stanislav (advisor) ; Klemera, Petr (referee)
Mechanical properties of vessel walls influence many physiological functions of organisms and its health status. Biomechanical changes in mechanical properties of vessels accompany process of aging. Consequently, biomechanical characteristics may be marker of aging. Aim of this work was identification of biomechanical characteristics of pig aorta walls on the basis of measurement of impulse and transient mechanical responses of deformation on stress. Work also analyzed linearity of parameters. Measurements were performed by instruments developed on department of biophysics and physical chemistry.
Measurement of bone density and its use for determination of biological age, prevention and indication of osteoporosis
Krátká, Jitka ; Ďoubal, Stanislav (advisor) ; Klemera, Petr (referee) ; Hála, Tomáš (referee)
The actual level of factual individual ageing of organism is characterized by biological age. By means of measuring function ability of physiological systems it is possible to evaluate the biological age and use it as an indicator of premature ageing and therefore as an indicator of the risk of getting ill. This study brings an overview of contemporary used, non-standard markers for the measurement of biological age and uncovers the possibility of measurement of biological age (BA) of skeleton and its use in osteoporosis precaution. Inclusion of BA measurement of skeleton into basic screening should bring another perspective how to measure objectively the changes in organism that correspond with ageing. Key words: biological age, osteoporosis, bone ageing, osteodenzitometry
