Music as a public space - New concept of Brno Philharmonic
Šobich, Vladimír ; Vágner, Lukáš (referee) ; Rusín, Tomáš (advisor)
The building structure of new philharmonic orchestra is a longstanding dream of concert hall, whose level is comparable to state-of -the-art concert halls in the world. Where should be the new building located was one of the demands of my assignment. How to involve contemporary architecture to historical context or to urban context in a way that the location of the building will agree with its place in the society, but in a way that it will still respect the heritage of contemporary philharmonic orchestra and heritage of Teofil Hansen? The main aim of the design was to find out the most appropriate location and to design the building structure of new philharmonic orchestra that would meet all contemporary acoustic and personal requirements and would take into consideration all development trends.

Macurová, Lenka ; Čapák, Bořivoj (referee) ; Rusín, Tomáš (advisor)
An assignment of diploma thesis was to design a concert hall for Brno Philharmonic. Ten years ago, an architectural competition was held to design Janáček cultural centre on a plot between the streets Veselá and Besední. The winning project was simplified and divided into two parts (underground parking and concert hall). My proposal is based on the planned parking, which finally begins to build in 2015. Shape of the house respects the surrounding buildings. My aim was create the building, which would be functional, urban, beautiful and more economical than the winning project.

The reasons for choosing this property was the strongest ties to the Meeting House., Position in the city center in a neighborhood with other major institutions, well-connected to public transport, the opportunity to realize the capacity underground parking. This year were started construction work on this place that has become a new building. The overall implementation takes place in two stages. In the first round of the competition envisaged the demolition substation at the International Hotel and expanding the plot. In the second round it was only a plot parking spot without significant interference with the surrounding space. This version is valid to this day.

Křivinková, Tereza ; Vágner, Lukáš (referee) ; Rusín, Tomáš (advisor)
The urban design for an area of former barracks Jaselská kasárna in Brno is based on an effort to create sustainable town structure, which allows a free movement of inhabitants through the area. The lot is well connected to the city centre and has a good accessibility to public transportation. More over it is situated in a rather quiet part of Brno. Designed houses are oriented parallel to Štefánikova and Staňkova street. The design is defined by two types of public space – square and park. Nursing home for elderly is situated on their edge. The residents of the home have the opportunity to visit both public spaces. Shops and services are within the walking distance. Due to its location in the center of the new dwelling resort, the elderly stay a part of society and they will not feel useless.
Rehabilitation Former Jaselsky Barracks Area in Brno
Mai Lan, Chi ; Mutina, Petr (referee) ; Rusín, Tomáš (advisor)
Nowadays we are building 2 main typologies of dwelling, residential appartment buildings and family houses. The residential appartment buildings are mostly established in the city center whereas family houses on the green field outside the town. Both typologies have both advantages and disadvantages. The important factors influencing decisions whether to choose the family house or the appartment living are e.g. finance, distance from working place and facilities, greenery in the surrounding, need of the individual vehicular traffic, safety for childrens, etc. Building of family housing is accompanied by the globe problem which is urban sprawl. Landscape is being destroyed at the expense of disfunctional unurban satelite developments. The project is focused on a solution for this problem by combining these two different typologies, picking the advantages and putting them together into the functional formula.
Rehabilitation Former Jaselsky Barracks Area in Brno
Matrtaj, Marek ; Hanousková-Boučková, Daniela (referee) ; Rusín, Tomáš (advisor)
The rehabilitation of the former Jaselská barracks aims to create a place with a clear identity within the city context. A green axis connects the urban-planning elements – the city house and dwellings in the park, and unites the newly built structure. The work elaborates on the park dwellings, which are characterised by a low-rise structure whilst keeping the density of a city block. Proportion suited to the human needs, simple spatial and architectural language and a gradient of public and private spaces are the key elements of this design.
Czech Krumlov - Revitalization Ambit Zone
Benedová, Kateřina ; Vydrová, Zdeňka (referee) ; Rusín, Tomáš (advisor)
The project of revitalisation of the Ambit area in Český Krumlov emerges from the current needs and the future strategic visions of the town as well as from its historical context and cultural heritage. It proposes a natural and simple cultivation of the grounds and their transformation into a park and riverside promenades creating an agreeable background for the pedestrian paths joining the downtown with the housing areas in the suburbs. This environment creates a set for a multifunctional cultural and community centre. The historically protected building, originally a cloth factory, is transformed into a hotel with a restaurant and connected to two new objects of the cultural centre. In their volume and location these buildings don’t exceed the maximal height level of the surrounding area and respect its natural configuration as well as its historical value. Both houses correspond not only in terms of materials but also in their simple conception free of all unnecessary formalities. They are not trying to compete with the town and its genius loci; on the contrary, they attempt to create a dignified entrance wordy of the town. Their floor plan creates a coherent space with a certain amount of tension created by the very not-orthogonal arrangement.
Moravian-Silesian Philharmonic Orchestra of Ostrava, Černá louka
Fedorková, Zuzana ; Rusín, Tomáš (referee) ; Gürtler,, Ivan (advisor)
The building is located in the city Ostrava in Cerna louka, that is a city district very close to the center and river side, just in a middle of the ortogonal block build up area. The philharmonic is designed like a big block made of brass from which is rising the light glazed volume of the auditorium and where the volume of atrium is hidden in. This 2 volumes represent the future and past values of the city Ostrava. The volume of the auditorium is the only object in whole ortogonal area that is twisted. Due to this fact it gains uniqueness and dissimilarity. Thanks to that is becoming a new symbol of the city.
