Reflection on Piano Work of Leos Janacek

At the beginning of my master´s essay I treat the character of Leos Janacek´s piano work. Following chapters aredevoted to specific piano compositions: Thema con variazioni - Zdenka´s variations, piano cycle On an Overgrown Path, the Sonata 1.X.1905, piano cycle In the Mists, the Concertino, the Capriccio and the Reminiscence. The main attention is focused on his three most mature pieces - piano cycle On an overgrown Path, the Sonata 1.X.1905 and piano cycle In the Mists. I deal with their origins, formal and harmonic analysis, tematic relations and, not at least, a poetic reflection on the compositions mentioned above.

I devoted my bachelor thesis to the great Czech composer Bohuslav Martinů. The theme is "Bohuslav Martinů - piano works - Sonata for piano". I will write about life of the composer, about famous and outstanding solo piano works and the most of time I will devote to composer´s Sonata for piano number 1, written in 1954. Than, I will try to explain what means truly or ideal interpretation in my mind.

I have devoted my thesis to the subject of musical piano improvisation. The introduction explains the concept of improvisation. The next important point of this thesis is a brief history of improvisation from the odest cultures to early Romanticism. The main focus of the work is based around interviews with living piano improvisers who perform their art whether professionally on concert podiums or for their own use at home.

My thesis dissertate the theme of history and progress of the Czech Boys Choir Boni Pueri. The focal point of the thesis is in the interviews with conductors and pianists, who cooperated with Boni Pueri in the past or now. In interviews I analyze questions regarding conducting, choir school and especially piano accompaniment, which brings difficulties and specificity.

Jan Ladislav Dussek as an intermediary between classicism and romanticism. Brief characteristics of 18th-Century music, three essential periods, important personalities. Brief view of history of piano as a musical instrument. Differences between using harpsichord and clavichord, hybrid instruments, Bartolomeo Cristofori and first hammer-action keyboard instruments, Viennese and English hammer action. Piano schools in Vienna and London, different approaches to piano technique. Jan Ladislav Dussek and his contribution both to world?s piano literature and to performing. Dussek as a piano teacher. Traces of romanticism in his piano works (concerning melody, rhythm, harmony, composition form and piano texture) demonstrated on examples and compared with works by Ludwig van Beethoven and later composers.

I would like to introduce one big "renaissance" person. Daniel Forró is a polyglot, top of the world in field of MIDI, great keyboard player and very successful composer . Since Forró lives in Japan, it is important to remember him in Czech technical fields. I would like to introduce a digest of Forro´s work and some of his theses about a music of 21th Century. He is also a man with large ideas in various fields of knowledge. That is why this composition would introduce Forró to potential readers as not only an expert but also as a human being.
Bohuslav Martinů: Piano works

In this work I tried to describe Bohuslav Martinů´s works for piano with concentration on one of the high composition of his heritage - Fantasy and Toccata. In the introduction, I mentioned my motivation for writing this paper. The first chapter is brief discuss about Bohuslav Martinů´s life. The second chapter is focused on development of Bohuslav Martinů´s works for piano through his life. I tried to point out on width and diversity of his piano works. Third chapter introduce clearly organized list of piano works line up according to year appearance and opus number from Halbreich catalogue. At the beginning is a brief introduction and then list of solo piano works divided into two cathegories compositions from youth and mature compositions (which appears at the beginning of his Paris period). Fourth chapter makes up list of concertant works with solo piano. Fifth chapter is overview of compositions for two pianos. Sixth chapter bandy about overview by works for keyboard instruments such as cemballo and organ works. In the following, seventh, chapter, I was dealing with main works for piano and analysing conditions which related to their appearance. Eighth chapter is focused on concrete master work - Fantasy and Toccata. I describe circumstances of emergence, note pianist - Rudolf Firkušný - the composition is dedicated for and analyse the work . Ninth chapter is supplement of previous chapter and describe other compositions, which appears in same time as Fantasy and Toccata. At the conclusion I write about value and importance of understanding for Bohuslav Martinů ´s work.
