The Press Department of Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Czechoslovak Republic between 1918-1938 : leading, personalities, conception and organization

After serving few hundred years under the reign of Habsburc monarchy the Czech nation was trying to establish itself like a more independent part of the monarchy or like a new and independent state outside from the Habsburc monarchy. Activities of this movement were called National renaissance and it culminated during the First World War at that time led by Mr. Tomas Garrigue Masaryk, who was supporter of independent Czech state formed as democratic republic. The end of the First World War was a big victory for efforts to establish the new Czech state with cooperation with the similar efforts of Slovaks. To support this efforts there was created a new nation of Czechoslovaks and all the claims for territory and new state for this nation were done together with Slovaks. A new map for eastern Europe was laid out in the Paris conference in 1919 and seven new states were established in that conference as independent and democratic, one of them was Czechoslovak republic, usually known under the name Czechoslovakia. Position of The Guardian on the Britisch newspaper market

Bachelor thesis named 'Role of the Guardian daily newspaper in the British press market' consist of three parts. The first part deals with the mass print and its development in Great Britain. There is a brief history of the very first daily papers appearing in 18th century, their rise during the industrial revolution in the first half of 19th century, followed by the period of press barons, and finally 20th century in the name of large media conglomerates. The contemporary press market is examined from the social class perspective, typical for Great Britain, with the spreading tabloidization increasingly affecting the serious news as well as the growing power of the internet. The mutual influence of media and politics is also very important, mainly in connection with the owner effects. The whole second part is dedicated to the Guardian daily newspaper, mainly to its history dating back to 1821, when the Guardian was established in Manchester as a regional newspaper named the Manchester Guardian. The original title was used until 1959. One of the most interesting aspects of the current Guardian is its website created back in 1999. The media image of the Syndicate of Journalists of Czech Republic in daily papers as a contribution to transformation of media environment

The Master thesis "The Media Image of the Syndicate of Journalists of Czech Republic in Dailypapers as a Contribution to Transformation of Media Environment" deals with the media image of journalistic organization created by selected nationwide printed media in years from 1990 to 2008. This paper is divided according to time periods, which were defined by three chairmen of Syndicate of Journalists - Rudolf Zeman, Irena Válová, and Miroslav Jelínek. Thesis is dealing not only with media image of the syndicate on front pages of chosen periodicals but also with position of the syndicate in society, respectively among politicians and journalist. Author have gathered information from syndicate's archival materials (National Archive in Prague and secretariat of Syndicate of Journalists in the Czech republic), from academic literature, from data of syndicate's newsletter Mediažurnál, and from found articles, which mentioned the Syndicate of Journalists in the Czech republic. The result of this paper is a media image of Syndicate of Journalists in the Czech republic with regard to chosen events. Changes in the lifestyle 1945-1948 : (an analysis of articals for women in Lidová demokracie)

The diploma thesis describes the way of life in postwar Czechoslowakia on the grounds of analysis of newspaper articles in the journal of Čs. strana lidová (political party). In concentrates on eight areas - women and politics, women and work, nutrittion, fashion, household, family, children and education. It creates a detailed view on living conditions and the most burning issues to common people. Society on the whole went through a sea change. After the second world war there were more women then men. Political parties fought form their votes. There was an huge lack of labour force. It was necessary to make women work not just at home. The aim of the Communist Party was to involve all women in labour. The republic struggles with a crucial absence of food and textiles. In spite of that, Lidová demokracie offered articles about latest fashion trends. The high number of infant mortality was alarming. 1945 saw the failure of many marriages. The author sets her analysis into the context of political and economic events of the period 1945-1948, she descrbes changes in the media control system as well as the press of Čs. strana lidová. This diploma thesis also details the conditions of women's journalism, what subject matter was highlighted, and what space it was allowed to develop.

Atomic bombings of Japanese cities Hiroshima and Nagasaki in August 1945 and the reflection of these events in Czechoslovac postwar media

The diploma thesis Atomic Bombings of Japanese Cities Hiroshima and Nagasaki in August 1945 and the Reflection of These Events in Czech Postwar Media considers the event from year 1945 which has changed the world. This topic was also covered by Czechoslovak newspapers at the time. The propaganda of the USA and also of the Soviet Union was at high level at that time and Czechoslovak press was highly influenced by this. That?s why the end of the war and atomic bombing of the Japanese cities were for public largely misrepresented. The paper considers in detail, how the three particular newspapers ? Svobodné noviny, Lidová demokracie and Rudé právo - handled with accessible information. The author of this thesis picked up the articles in connection with the war with Japan. Author than confronted the extent of articles in particular newspapers and the rate of influence of political orientation and character of chosen newspapers on the articles content. The paper deals with question why the press redactions wrote about those events often in a tendentious way or why newspapers did not publish some of the information. The thesis summarizes how did the media work after the Second World War and how would they work at the presence.

Image of the Czech-Australian settlement in 1871 on the site of the Viennese press

The thesis "The image of Czech-Austrian settlement in 1871 in media coverage by Viennese press" is focused on the view of German Austrians on the constitutional negotiations between the government in Vienna and the Czech political representation. The settlement consisted of a several media events reflected by major European dailies. The work examines the sight of two important Viennese newspaper - Die Neue Freie Presse and Die Presse, which were located in the center of the political focus. The research depicts period when constitutional negotiations culminated - from August to September 1871. Prior the analysis of dailies is the theoretical part describing the development of Czech-German relations, with emphasis on German nationality within the Habsburg monarchy, the development of censorship in the monarchy in the second half of the nineteenth century and the history of the examined periodicals.

A journalist in regional dailies as a specific journalistic profession on the example of the Ústí region

Diploma thesis "The journalist in regional newspapers as a specific journalistic profession in Ústí region" deals with the working and status differences of regional journalists, whose occupation is believed as a specific kind of journalism. This thesis is mainly concentrated on the area of getting information and working with them, it is also focused on problems and difficulties of regional journalism, the role of journalists, their relationship to the local area and as well their moral level. Last, but not least this thesis brings the sociological profile of regional journalists in Ústí region. On the basis of a research which consists of disinterested observation and a research via questioning in seven newsrooms of Vltava-Labe-Press company newspapers, it shows the picture of margin journalists who have to fight with bad reputation in a long term. One part o this thesis is also a historical divagation to the development of regional press in the Czech Republic in the area of Ústí region and the stormy property changes which happened in the 90's of 20th century as well.

Alfred Hugenberg and his media roup

'The thesis "Alfred Hugenberg and his media concern" describes the life of Alfred Hugenberg, his political activity and the formation of media concern. Thesis is devoted to the individual life stages of Hugenberg, and describes intellectual background of his youth and his career beginnings. The period of his greatest political success, when he became a chairman of the German Nationalist People's Party (DNVP) in 1928 and later a minister of economy, agriculture and nutrition in Hitler's cabinet, is also described in detail. The following chapter illustrates his life period during war and after war, when Hugenberg loses his political power and seeks primarily to protect his property and achieve a "moral cleansing". Thesis also shows detailed treatises on the mental and materialistic basics of Hugenberg's concern and provides an itemized illustration of its progressive construction. Concurrently, the function of individual parts of the concern, its financial background and position inside the media market during the period of Weimar Republic are described. Comprehensive picture of the life of Alfred Hugenberg and his media concern is incorporated into the contemporary context however, particularly his collaboration with Adolph Hitler takes certain attention. The Journal Pravo lidu 1945-1948:Hopes,Aims and Tattered Ideals

The daily Právo lidu (Peoples' Rights), a paper of the Czechoslovak Social Democratic Party (ČSSD), started to be published 12 of May 1945, immediately after a forced break during the Second World War. However, its renewed edition did not last much longer than mere three years. After the Social Democratic Party merged with the Communist Party the newspaper was closed, or more precisely "diverted" under the auspices of Rudé právo (Red right), the central organ of the Communist Party. My aim in writing this thesis is a study of this period as such, its presentation on the pages of Právo lidu, or a presentation of some major historical events on the pages of the diary and the form of the paper itself. The work is therefore divided into two main parts. The first is a theoretical introduction describing pivotal moments in the development of post-war Czechoslovakia, where I am focusing on the description of the aspects that shaped the period, formed the internal political situation and directed the former Czechoslovakia into the Soviet Union's sphere of influence.
