The Pottery from the Roman Provinces in Bohrmia during the Roman and Migration Perios

Keywords: Roman-provincial pottery, archaeological finds, Roman imports, Roman Period, Migration Period, Bohemia Abstract In his master thesis, author focuses on the finds of Roman-provincial pottery in Bohemia during the Roman and Migration Period from 68 sites in 58 cadastral units. A number of 208 pottery sherds from the settlements of Roman and Migration Period as well as 16 preserved whole or only slightly damaged vessels from the graves of Migration Period, are analyzed. Together, there must had been at least 173 up to 194 ceramic vessels of Roman-provincial origin imported into region of Bohemia. The main stress is putted on an elaborate catalogue of finds. In the analytical part, the 11, respectively 12 main categories of Roman-provincial pottery featured in Bohemia are set aside, the essential finds are briefly discussed and the possible directions of supply of (not only) ceramic import from the Roman Provinces into Bohemia are outlined.
Forming and development of towns in Romain Britain in 2. and 3. century

This work deals with the Roman civilian settlements which began to emerge in the province of Britannia following its establishment in mid-first century. In the introduction the work describes the characteristic features of these settlements and their functions. The first chapter gives an overview of the different types of towns and their administrative establishment. In following chapters, the work deals with the town defences, private and public buildings and amenities, including religious buildings which were part of the towns. The work describes their type, design and development in general and also examples of these structures in most important locations.
Secular architecture of the Bahariyja oasis in the Roman period

The paper deals with formulation of general character and mutual relations of secular architectural features in a particular area in the Roman period (30 BC - 395 AD) and their contextual relationship to the Western desert oases' architectural development. Discussed location is nowadays called the Bahariya oasis, known by Romans as Oasis Parva, which is understood in broad terms in this paper, including the site of el-Hayez. Significant attention will be put on architectural residential features together with their broader agro-economical precincts as well as their infrastructure. In addition, defensive, administrative and monumental features of the defined period will be investigated.
Roman civilian buildings north of the limes romanus in the Danube lowland

The thesis deliberates the existence of civilian structures built with Roman construction techniques in that part of the Danube Lowland outside the Empire which had unique contacts with the Roman provincial milieu of the first four centuries A.D. A geographical description of this area north of the Limes Romanus is followed by a detailed historical overview to serve as a framework for the interpretation of such buildings. The presented material includes all instances of Roman architecture from the time period in question, both in situ and inferred from secondary finds of construction material. The analysis sorts this material into two types of civilian buildings - villa-like structures, and smaller buildings. The former category designates those buildings that draw from provincial house architecture, and comprises structures built for civilian use during military campaigns (Mušov-Neurissen), facilities similar in function to the provincial economic system of the villa rustica (Stupava, Bratislava-Dúbravka), as well as probable residences for important figures of the Marcomanni and Quadi (Oberleisenberg, Cífer- Pác). The second, smaller type consists of so-called "buildings II" that were part of the abovementioned Germanic residence developments, buildings with composite roman-barbarian construction...
Limes in Scotland, Antonine wall

This work attends to the Roman limes in Scotland, especially the Antonine Wall. Apart from the Wall itself, there is analysis of the whole Roman presence in Scotland, begining with the forts and smaller military enclosures jointed to the Wall, continuing with the whole network of roads and fortifications north and south of the Wall. In particular chapters is discussed the whole historical overtone of Roman presence in Scotland, the topography of each significant site, by which author means those ones, which are connected with the Antonine occupation of Scotland and the Roman limes in the region of nowadays Scotland. Apart from military sites, this work is concerned on one hand with the impact of Roman short-time presence on native population. On the other hand it includes study of history of the researches in the area of modern Scotland, or the relevance of studying the partial sources in the framework of the whole research of limes in Sctoland. This work is also concerned with the builders of the Wall itself, same like the soldiers on the guarding duty on the Wall and their life in the harsch climate of the very north edge of the Roman Empire.
Roman gardens in antiquity

This bachelor work is concearning in a conceptional and in an architectural resolution of Roman gardens during the Roman period. The attention is paid to literary and archaeological sources, frescoes and mosaics and to gardening traditions, which help come close to understand Roman gardens in consideration of individual influences, which had participated in the garden forming. The development of gardens in Italy and in the Roman provinces and gardens insertion to the residential complexes are shortly cleared. Thereinafter are every single garden type, architectural features in garden design and garden sculpture analyzed. The last chapters are devoted to fauna and flora in gardens, to Roman gardeners, their tools and techniques. In the conclusion are summarized Roman garden's influences to the later gardens until these days.

Roman forts and fortresses in the Nile valley

This paper deals with roman fortifications in the Nile valley from the mouth of Delta to site of Qasr Ibrim located between first and second cataract. Period described in this paper can be limit by two dates. Beginning lay in the year 30BC, when Egypt became a roman province. The end of this period is year AD 641, when the city of Alexandria capitulated to Arab conquerors. The paper focuses on the architecture of forts and archaeological excavations.
Architecture in Pistiros and 3D reconstruction

The goal of the submitted thesis: "Architecture at Pistiros and 3D reconstruction" is to analyze whole unit of preserved architecture at ancient site at Pistiros. The first part is concentrated on describing the geographical and historical background at Thrace during the existence of emporion at Pistiros at 5th-3rd centruries BC. In the second part I characterize site at Pistiros with its geography and history. The third part is concentrated on describing architecture preserved on the site up to present day. In the fourth part I try to find relations in the wide area of ancient Greek and Thracian world. Subject of last part is 3D visualization of preserved architecture at Pistiros.
