Mapping and metodological management of physical complications of injecting drug users

BACKGROUND: Drug abuse is a social problem with psychosocial and physical complications. The lifestyle of injection drug users (IUD) increases the risk of infectious as well as of non-infectious diseases. The workers of low-threshold programmes are often the first ones to encounter the physical complications of injection drug users, and the workers are accordingly often the ones who take the initiative in dealing with those complications. Mapping the possible solutions of injection drug users' complications by the workers of low-threshold programmes would respond to the needs for methodological approach widely available to the workers of low-threshold programmes. AIMS: The present thesis aims to describe the possible solutions to physical complications of injection drug users through mapping the solutions in the practice of the low-threshold programmes workers for drug users in Prague. SAMPLE: All the seven low-threshold programmes facilities based in Prague were appealed to participate on the research. The incidence and context of alcohol use of persons after spinal cord injury

The topic of this thesis is use of alcohol in people after spinal cord injury, who form a specific group of people with disabilities. Objectives of the research work The objective of this thesis is to describe the incidence and rate of alcohol use in people after spinal cord injury and find any specifics of alcohol use for this target group. As well as describe motives and reasons for alcohol use, specifics of individual diagnoses, find and define health problems related to alcohol use in people after spinal cord injury. Last but not least, find out whether in this specific group individuals with symptoms of harmful alcohol use (alcohol abuse) or addiction to alcohol appear. Sample file Participants of research (sample file) in this thesis are people after spinal cord injury who are members of the civic association CZEPA. The main objective of this association is to defend the rights and interests of people after spinal cord injury and strives for their full integration into society. Consumption rooms for drug users - Needs analysis

Consumption rooms for drug users are implemented as a tool of tertiary prevention by a number of European countries. These services are based on harm reduction philosophy. The objectives of these programs include minimizing health risks, overdose prevention, motivating users to change their lifestyle. Consumption room has also effect in reduction of negative effects associated with open drug scenes such as the drug consumption in public places. The thesis is about a need analysis of a theoretical application of a consumption room in the capital city Prague. After a theoretical introduction, which introduces the background of the project, the project objectives and examples of foreign practice presented in a literature, are presented the results of qualitative research. The aim of the research, conducted by the technique of semi-structured interview, is to answer the basic questions of needs and expectations of potential users, experts in the treatment and prevention of addiction and other persons who may be considered as involved from the perspective of discussion about consumption. Definition of the term "peer-work" in the Czech Republic with a focus on drug users.

Abroad is the method of peer work dealing with the involvement of drug users (active and retired) extended far more than in the Czech Republic. Information and data are available mainly from foreign sources, where peer work has been continuing a tradition. In the Czech Republic, this method is still not so much used, as well as is the lack of Czech professional literature on the subject. Method of peer work in the Czech Republic has not been comprehensively mapped, described and evaluated. They are organizations dealing with the involvement and employment of drug users, which usually draw infromation from foreign sources and work with their data. There is no comprehensive overview, providing information and data in this area in the Czech Republic. The target of this work is to map the use of peer work in the Czech Republic in the area of drug services. Within the sub-targets are the structure and functioning of each peer programs studying. Background: In the Czech Republic, there is currently a network of harm reduction services, especially for users of illegal drugs. These centres and programs are very diffrent in provided services, procedures, conditions for providing care and also in the status (registered social service x registered medical service x unregistred service). By analyzing the current status of harm reduction services, we can outline possible future development. Research file: The study was addressed to all contact centers and outreach programs for drug users in the Czech Republic (N = 96).
