SUTORIS, Karol. Fotodynamická terapie xenotransplantovaných lidských tumorů. [Photodynamic therapy of xenotransplanted human tumours]. Prague, 2015. 168 pp. Doctoral Thesis. Charles University in Prague, Third Faculty of Medicine, Department of Surgery Faculty Hospital Královské Vinohrady. Lector GÜRLICH, Robert. Language Czech. In todays clinical practice oncological indications of photodynamic therapy (PDT) are limited primarily to palliative treatment and are used as an adjunct to conventional oncosurgical routines with the aim of improving the quality of life and prolonging patient survival. The efficacy of experimental PDT on xenotransplanted human tumours has been proven in our in vivo study on nu/nu mice. One particular cell line of mammary carcinoma (MDA-MB-231) and two biologically different cell lines of prostate carcinoma (LNCaP, PC- 3) were tested. The key aspect of our experiment was the application of newly developed photosensitizer - hydroxy-aluminum phthalocyanine (AlOH-Pc) in the form of liposomal gel designed for locotopical application. Therapy achieved complete remission in 90% of mice with mammary carcinoma xenografts and in 100% of those with prostate carcinoma xenografts. The new photosensitizer, unlike the older ones, has minimal drug-light interval and does not cause...
Predictive and prognostic factors of gastric cancer

Predictive and prognostic factors in gastric cancer Šmíd D. Surgical clinic of University Hospital in Pilsen and Faculty of Medicine in Pilsen, Charles University in Prague. Introduction: Gastric cancer is one of malignant diseases which have the worst prognosis. Unfortunately, there are most patients with advanced-stage disease who have to be treated in a palliative way. Patients suffered from the same type of tumor, being at the same stage of disease and treated with the same chemotherapy have various rates of survival, which can be caused by diverse expression of selected genes impacting on the mechanism of cytostatic effects. The determination of these genes or microRNAs which regulate these genes could be used as a predictive factor for prediction of effects of administered chemotherapy. The determination of some microRNAs, or in the combination with suitable plasmatic factors, could be used as a prognostic factor for patients with gastric cancer. It is also possible to use this combination for early diagnosis of cancerogenesis Object: The aim is to verify the possibility to use expression of selected genes and some microRNAs in tumor tissue as a prognostic factor or a predictor for therapeutic effects of chemotherapy in patients with gastric cancer. Methodology: We retrospectively evaluated the group...
Computational problems of elementary number theory

Title: Computational problems of elementary number theory Author: Mgr. Jiří Widž Department: Department of Mathematics Education Supervisor: Prof. RNDr. Štefan Porubský, DrSc. Institute of Computer Science of the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic Abstract: The central notion of this presented thesis is the concept of continued fractions. The origin of this concept as one of the oldest mathematical methods is shown here in its historical connections. The technique of continued fractions belongs to classical parts of mathematics. Although the general theory of continued fractions is manifold and layered considerably, in textbooks it is usually treated according to the intended purpose of its use. In the present text we have summarized the foundations of the general theory of convergence of continued fractions with an emphasis on the theory of simple continued fractions and their most common applications. We show several possibilities how the concept of continued fractions can be generalized to other structures such as the Gaussian integers or polynomial continued fractions. In the chapter devoted to matrix continued fractions we shall demonstrate the possibility how to extend it to non-commutative algebraic structures. We also show how the apparatus of continued fractions can be used to solve...
Algorithms and Principles in Mathematics Education
Pazourek, Karel ; Šír, Zbyněk (advisor) ; Odvárko, Oldřich (referee) ; Šimša, Jaromír (referee)
The thesis is devoted to the use of the algorithms and the principles in mathe- matical education, especially in the education of the divisibility. It is based on study of the Czech secondary school textbooks which were published since 1852. We mention briefly the history of the system of education since 1848 as well as the theory of divisibility. There are analyzed the algorithmic methods connected with divisibility commented in these textbooks. Two applications of the algorithms are pointed out. The algorithms can be used in education of talented students as it is done in the mathematical course of the Talnet project. The principles are the fundaments of commentary of the textbooks, the principle of induction is the base of the divisibility. In the appendix, there is a demonstration of graduated development of algorithm in the case of the Euclid algorithm.
Application of Low Molecular Weight Heparins
Maršíková, Miroslava ; Pavlíková, Pavla (advisor) ; Šimša, Jaromír (referee)
This master's thesis focuses on subcutaneous administration of low molecular weight heparins. The theoretical part is focused on anticoagulation treatment. It specifies aspects in which treatment with low molecular weight heparins is more beneficial than standard heparin treatment. It describes subcutaneous administration techniques referred to in the scientific literature in the Czech Republic since the year 1995. It also provides descriptions of subcutaneous administration for the most frequently administered low molecular weight heparins in the Czech Republic from package leaflets. The research part investigates whether nurses follow the methods for subcutaneous administration of low molecular weight heparin as recommended by the manufacturers of these products. It also examines whether nurses know the benefits of administration of low molecular weight heparins. In conclusion, the thesis proposes ways of improving the situation in the subcutaneous administration of low molecular weight heparins
Optical and magneto-optical properties of magnetic oxides
Brom, Pavel ; Šimša, Jaromír (referee) ; Kučera, Miroslav (advisor)
In the present experimental work we study Faraday rotation (FR) and magnetic circular dichroism (MCD) spectra of thin films of a) RF sputtered copper ferrites stabilized by the post-deposition heat treatment in two different crystallographic structures (tetragonal and cubic), b) bismuth and galium substitued iron garnets prepared by the liquid phase epitaxy method. With iron garnets we have measured FR and MCD spectra at room temperatures in the visible and infrared (IR) region, where we have observed diamagnetic-shape profile and high values of FR in the visible region. With copper ferites the magneto-optical methods in the IR region at low temperatures have enabled to study fine splittings of the paramagnetic transitions of the tetrahedral Cu2+ ions. We have developed algorithms for as much as possible automatization of measurements of FR and MCD spectra using a rotating polarizer or a rotating quarter-wave-plate method.
Problems for the MO - breakthrough ideas, or routine manipulations?
Šimša, Jaromír
The contribution focuses on the features of problems from the Mathematical Olympiad which should distinguish them from usual problems from mathematics lessons. The author illustrates his considerations by the analysis of recent MO problems proposed by himself.
