The Position of Morocco in International Relations
Pudelová, Tereza ; Volenec, Otakar (advisor) ; Dubský, Zbyněk (referee)
The Kingdom of Morocco is special for its geographical location in the centre of interests of the African, European and American continents and for its position as a monarchy. Morocco s historical tradition as a monarchy does not prevent it from addressing important social changes. In spite of its geopolitical importance, Moroccan history and politics have long been overlooked. International development of the last two decades have shown that the importance of the Kingdom in regional and international environment is growing. Morocco proved to be an important ally of the West and the Gulf states in the Global War on Terror, the events of the Arab Spring and the current refugee crisis. Foreign relations with the United States, France and Spain have a long history and are mostly based on economic and security cooperation. Morocco is also in the centre of interests of the European Union, especially within the framework of the European neighbourhood policy. Relations with the Gulf monarchies have once again gained its importance in the context of the security threat that was posed by the revolutions of the Arab Spring. Moroccan foreign policy agenda is dominated by the dispute over Western Sahara which creates a burden for normalization of relations with Algeria and also for further integration of the Maghreb region.

The region of southern and eastern Mediterranean has always been one of the priority spheres of interest of the European Union and the beginnings of Euro-Mediterranean cooperation may date from the 1970s onwards. century. But in the 1990s, more than twenty years of efforts to increase mutual trade and development of cooperation have resulted in the Euro-Mediterranean partnership, also known as the Barcelona Process that was the forerunner of the Union for the Mediterranean. And rightfully the Union for the Mediterranean, initiated in 2008 by the French president, was an attempt to revive interest in the Mediterranean region. The aim of the thesis is to analyze the nature of Euro-Mediterranean policies (from the Euro-Mediterranean partnership through the European Neighborhood Policy to the Union for the Mediterranean), with emphasis being placed on both the formal (institutional) and the practical aspects of the Union for the Mediterranean project. After briefly characterizing the institutional framework of the UpS, the work focuses on the results and effectiveness of its economic, political, security, human rights and cultural projects and policies, while not forgetting to mention the major challenges and barriers that are hampering closer cooperation between the two shores of the Mediterranean.

West Berlin and Willy Brandt
Cimalová, Natalie ; Veselý, Zdeněk (advisor) ; Dubský, Zbyněk (referee)
Willy Brandt belongs to one of the most significant and popular political figures of the 20th century. His name is inextricably linked to the West Berlin, peacekeeping, defense of freedom, and the constant fight for social justice. Willy Brandt witnessed the Berlin blockade which started in June 1948. Several years later, in 1958, he had to face a difficult challenge in form of the First Berlin Crisis, and in August 1961, he had to promptly react to the construction of the Berlin Wall. This thesis analyzes reactions of Willy Brandt to these crises, and with the use of e.g. results of opinion polls and the contemporary media reports, it proves that his popularity in this period of time significantly increased. The thesis also provides evidence that Willy Brandt was not only able to ensure the viability of West Berlin, but also its economic and cultural boom and secure its international position.
Development of the international political and economical situation in Iran during the sanction regime
Horáková, Barbora ; Havlová, Radka (advisor) ; Dubský, Zbyněk (referee)
This diploma thesis analyzes the impact of sanctions imposed on Iran by the international community due to unclear issues in the Iranian nuclear program. The aim of the paper is to find out whether the economic situation in Iran has changed due to the sanctions and whether the sanctions have had an impact on its international political position. The analysis of four macroeconomic indicators, which together form the so-called magical quadrangle, will serve to determine the development of the economy. These indicators include the development of the GDP, the inflation, the unemployment and the balance of payments. Given the dependency of the country on oil exports, the development of oil production in the period of sanctions is also being monitored. The results of the analysis show that the economic situation in Iran deteriorated over the duration of the sanctions, especially in 2012 when the European Union stopped buying Iranian oil. The second part is devoted to exploring Iran's relations with the United States, Russia and the European Union. The analysis shows that the relationship between Iran and the United States is more than by sanctions influenced by the fact that Iran is diverting from the civilian nuclear program. On the contrary, Russia maintains allied ties with Iran, which are, however, to some extent limited. This is evidenced by the fact that Russia has approved all the UN sanctions against Iran. The European Union played an important role during the negotiation processbeing the very first to start negotiating with Iran about its nuclear program. For the Union, this was also an important test of the functionality of the Common Foreign and Security Policy Institute.
