Conflict prevention in the workplace

This work is focused on the analysis of conflicts in the intensive care unit of a regional hospital in the Czech Republic. In the theoretical part of the work, an introduction to conflict is given. The work also introduces the unit and the Safewards concept. The practical part analyzes and discusses conflicts in a specific intensive care unit and provides recommendations for practice. To enable this, a questionary survey, subsequent analysis of hypotheses and interview with the unit manager were used. Intervention cards for intensive care units were created, based on the Safewards concept, which are freely available as a supplement to this work. It was found that verbal conflicts form a majority of the recorded conflicts in the unit. It was deduced that most of the typical factors that are evaluated in questionnaire surveys (age, education, work experience, job position) do not possess a statistically relevant influence on the number of conflicts reported by individual workers in the last 12 months. Although it was found that worker-patient conflicts are reported more frequently than interpersonal conflicts, the interview with the unit manager suggested limitations of this outcome.
