Computer in the Word of the elderly people

This bachelor?s paper is focused on seniors who use modern information technology in the senior citizens? home Máj. It is rather exceptional for seniors to use computers. However, the number of people aged sixty-five and over who started to use computer increased more than four times over the past four years. The theoretical part of the paper is divided into four main topics. The first topic deals with issues of old age and ageing, the second topic is focused on communication with seniors, the third topic covers seniors? active leisure, and the fourth topic involves seniors and information technology. The objective of the paper was to establish for what purposes seniors in the senior citizens? home Máj usually use computer. To achieve this objective, individual research sub-questions were determined. The research was carried out in the senior citizens? home Máj in České Budějovice. For data collection, qualitative research strategy was used and the inquiry method using semi-standardised interview technice was chosen. The respondents answered the individual research sub-questions. The interview outcomes were systematically searched through according to the individual differences recorded in the answers. These differences were compared and processed. The paper can be an inspiration for other senior citizens? homes that would be interested in arrangement of educational programmes aimed at ICT utilisable for seniors. The paper can further be used to raise awareness of lay and professional public concerning seniors? computer literacy and use of computers by seniors. The paper can also be utilised to inform voluntary coordinators working with seniors and interested in assisting seniors? education in the information technology area.
