Alzheimer's disease - progress in therapy and diagnostics

The bachelor thesis compiled the up-to-date theoretical knowledge about Alzheimer's disease focused on its diagnosis and treatment. The first part of the thesis is devoted to the dementia syndrome and Alzheimer's disease in general. The clinical signs, stages and forms of Alzheimer's disease are described here, and there is also briefly summarized information about prevalence and risk factors. The next part discusses the pathophysiology and pathogenesis of Alzheimer's disease, and the main hypotheses of the disease development are also described in this part. The chapter dealing with diagnostics is divided into diagnostic process, diagnostic criteria, laboratory tests and imaging methods. The chapter mainly describes the already established clinical, laboratory and imaging methods used in the clinical practice as well as methods that could be introduced into clinical practice in the future. Scientific research focuses on biomarkers related to pathological process of Alzheimer's disease. In the last part of bachelor's thesis are presented the possibilities of the therapy, including the symptomatic treatment, even the advances in treatment of amyloid β deposition.
