The Use of Information and Communication Technologies by the Elderly People

The bachelor thesis focuses on elderly people as participants of education and their usage of the information and communication technology (hereinafter referred to as ICT). The aim of this work is to analyze the frequency and reasons for using ICT by a specific group of elderly people. The thesis is divided into four chapters. First, the main concepts of age, aging, and changes in aging will be reflected. Attention will also be paid to the demographic development of elderly people. Furthermore, the work focuses on the concept of the information society, the digital divide, and digital literacy. The third chapter deals with the digital literacy of elderly people, motivation, and barriers in the usage of ICT and specific reasons for usage ICT by elderly people. The last chapter focuses on an empirical survey which analyzes the frequency and reasons for the usage of ICT by the participants of education.
