"The driver, who has a hard bread." Transformation of life and work conditions as experienced by bus drivers in Prague public transport.

The master's thesis "Řidič, ten tvrdý chleba má (describing how hard life the driver has): Changes of the life and work conditions of public transport bus drivers in Prague" tries to bring closer the work of public transport bus drivers in Prague in the period called Normalization and Transformation on the basis of the oral historical method in comparison with secondary literature and the archival research. The thesis focuses on the Prague Public transport Company drivers who worked in Dejvice and Řepy garages. Through obtaining the oral history interviews and the written documents, author explores how the profession has changed over the last forty years. Based on his research, he concludes that drivers dominant position in respect of passengers and the transport company turn into a completely opposite role at present. The topic of the thesis is not only enriching us from the perspective of individual fates but it also allows us to open the topics regarding the impact of the modern technologies on the work of ordinary people. The master's thesis helps to understand the bus driver work and life but also shows the transformation of understanding this profession in the Czech society itself.
