Representation of The Velvet Revolution and Culture Changes in Popular Culture

The thesis Representation of The Velvet Revolution and Culture Changes in Popular Culture focuses on contemporary TV series Vyprávěj and it focuses on the specific ways of representation of the historical moment of the end of the commmunist regime in Czechoslovakia. It is divided into two main part - theoretical and analytical. The theoretical one starts with a description of theoretical basis of media construction of reality and social constructivism. Following part of theoretical part is dedicated to theory of collective memory. Then the thesis continues with definiton of the principle of seriality. The next chapter is about historical description of events known under the term Velvet Revolution. In the last chapter of theoretical part is introduced TV series Vyprávěj, its plot and its main characters. It is also essential to distinguish two approaches to the analysis of media contents, which are content analysis and semiotic analysis. In the empirical part, the author defines the object of research. Then she sets hypotheses and define the categories that monitors on a sample of five relevant parts. Then several key scenes is subjected to semiotic analysis.
