The visual image of Czech public figure suicide in print media

This bachelor thesis deals with the media image of Czech public figure suicide in print media. Selected for analysis were the deaths of actor Vlastimil Brodský, composer Karel Svoboda, and singer Iveta Bartošová. The media to analyze are Blesk, a leading Czech tabloid, Mladá fronta DNES, a popular middlebrow newspaper, and Lidové noviny, commonly considered a serious, reputable daily. The goal of this paper is to compare the approaches amongst the selected media to the depiction of public figures and the sensitive issue of suicide, and secondly, to demonstrate the eventual progressional change thereof. Should a clear difference be proven to exist, this paper might also - as a secondary goal - become a minor contribution to the discussion concerning the supposed tabloidization of Czech media.
