1 Compatriots and the so-called compatriots laws in Central Europe Abstract Dr. Ivan Halász The main goal of this publication is to present the development of the compatriots issue in Central Europe. In this meaning Central Europe includes the so-called Visegrad part of this region: the territory of the Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland and Slovakia. The thesis is dealing with the Czech, Hungarian, Polish and Slovak compatriots living abroad and with their relationships with kin-states. The book is not covering all aspects of this complicated problem, but it is dealing only with the legal and administrative aspects of the issue of compatriots. It analyses the process of establishing the legislation of compatriots and also its development. The main goal of this legislation is the kin- state support for the compatriots communities living abroad. The dissertation focusis on the compatriots issue from the institutional point of view (which institutions deal with this problem and who is representing their interests in the kin-state?) Naturally, the introduction starts with terminology clarifications. Who is the compatriot, what are the differencies between the compatriots, emigrants, expatriots etc. How can we interpret this notion in the Czech, Hungarian, Polish and Slovak national context?
