Specifics of translation children's literature on the example of translations of selected Croatian and Czech literary works

The objective of this thesis is to define specific problems of translating for children, based on scientific works of well-known translatologists who deal with translation of children's literature. The specific problems are, for example, the dual audience, visual and acoustic aspect of the literary works, question of censorship, didactic function of the children's literature and other creative problems. These problems are considered when analyzing the translations of chosen Czech works for children, into Croatian. The analytical part of the thesis is the study of the degree to which translators consider these specific problems of translating for children, during the process of translation. Further, the thesis surveys the situation in the field of translation of children's literature between Czech and Croatian, and evaluates the quality of the works chosen for translation, based on comparison of the evolution 4 of the two literary systems. This comparison showed, that there are more children's books translated from Czech into Croatian than in the opposite direction, and that the Czech children's books chosen for translation are of higher literary quality.
