Solving the project “Geography of small towns” the specifics of these numerous settlements were researched even from the view of various physical geographical disciplines, mainly geomorphology and biogeography. During the last phase three indexes for physical geographical typology of small towns and their hinterlands were selected: types of relief, vegetation belts and types of contemporary landscape. On the basis of their synthesis the set of 124 towns was differentiated into 18 types.
