Multi-function Cultural Centre "Creative City" in Brno

The aim of the Master thesis project is a reconstruction of former prison in Soudní street in Brno. The current building is a historical construction from 18th century and contains chapel. This building has an extension, which closes the block from the Bratislavská street. The prison has square layout with two inside yards and one yards between prison and the extension. The design contains new usage of the current spaces with extension of new floors on the prison building, demolition of the current extension from the Cejl street and construction of new building on created new space. On the current building is designed two floor structure from the Soudní street, the rest of the building has one floor. New administrative construction is connected with the old building by a bridge. The main purpose of new creative centre are spaces for artists, painters, architects, alternative actors, newspaper publishers, starting businessmen and other functions that relates to operation of the building. Other functions are living, permanent and temporary, atelier for public and cooking institute.
European Painters of Native Tribes

The subject of a thesis is theoretical analysis of artistic work of two painters who as first ones showed in early modern Europe the visual appearance of the American native tribes. French Jacques le Moyne de Morgues and English John White were colonization pioneers of the New world in the second half of 16th century. Their work was extended through engravings of Theodor de Bry, Flemish engraver, after their return to the Old continent. Though the engraver purposely manipulated with their pictures - he edited the images and added various details. The thesis also deals with question what was the main intention of the Flemish engraver. Methodological resource was collecting information and text interpretation. The purpose of the thesis is familiarization with life and work of the European painters who as first ones depicted American Indian tribes and with activity of Theodor de Bry who extended their work in Europe. It outlines the development of the Hanoi School of Belles Arts and describes the system of teaching the art subjects at the time of French colonialism. The work further deals with individual painters of the first and second generation after the foundation of the School of Belles Arts to its closure in the year 1945, which is divided into two principle trends. The aim of the work is to present a survey of these two generations of painters and to show their importance for modern arts in Vietnam in the following decades of the 20th century. The Attachment of the work includes pictures of paintings and photographs.

The theoretical part of this work refers to the presence and approach to the technical element in former and current Czech art. It closely inquires into this theme in the work of the outstanding contemporary Czech artists and it also mentions the graffiti phenomenon and its influence on the present artistic production. Furthermore it explains my intention and technical method in the course of creating the practical part of the work - a cycle of six thematic paintings.
