Reducing labour pain using non-pharmacological methods
KOPKOVÁ, Iva
This bachelor thesis monitors non-pharmacological methods during labour, evaluates their efficiency on the visual analogue scale, and finds how women view them after childbirth. The theoretical part describes phases of delivery seen by a woman in labour and a midwife, and the matter of pain and specifically the labour pain. The last section of the theoretical part characterizes the non-pharmacological methods of easing labour pain. The empirical part contents qualitative observational research and a semi-structured interview. During labour, midwives observed women fighting the pain without any help of non-pharmacological methods and then with them. They wrote all findings into a record sheet. To be a part of this research, women in labour must not have used any pharmacological methods. Women, while being recorded, answered twelve questions in the interview no more than three days after their childbirth. The research from May 2021 shows which non-pharmacological methods women in the delivery room in the hospital in České Budějovice and Český Krumlov chose to use to ease their pain. The bachelor thesis refers to the importance of non-pharmacological methods in labour, although they cannot be equal to the efficiency of pharmacological approaches. The midwives and doctors may speak about the conclusion of this thesis at professional conferences or antenatal classes.
Mothers perception of pain during labour.
MICHÁLKOVÁ, Monika
The subject of the thesis is the labor pain and methods of pain control. The theoretical part focuses on a description of the process of childbirth and the role of midwifes at each stage of labor. This is followed by a general description of pain as well as the labor pain, methods of pain evaluation and overview of pharmacological and non-pharmacological methods used in obstetric analgesia. The research part of the work explores women's experience of pain during childbirth and methods that women prefer in relieving labor pain. For research survey was used qualitative method of data collection, using semi-structured interviews. Information obtained were divided into two main categories: "Women's experience with labor pain" and "Methods of relieving labor pain" Both categories were further subdivided into categories. Results of the research showed that women during pregnancy did not want to think about the oncoming birth pain because these ideas evoked feelings of fear and apprehension. Most women have no way to prepare for labor pain and the character and intensity of labor pain surprised almost all women. The vast majority of women accepted the offer of pharmacological labor pain reliever even though they didn't intend to originally. In addition, majority of them felt frustrated by the low effects of pharmacological methods and they attributed greater analgesic effect to non-pharmacological methods, including the presence of close person during childbirth and positive attitude of medical staff. Midwifes' help in relieving labor pain was evaluated very positively by all respondents. The results shows that the most important thing is coaching pregnant women by midwifes in preparation for labor pain and thus reduce feelings of anxiety and fear of pain during childbirth.
Non-pharmacological pain affecting methods during a childbirth and their use.
NOVOTNÁ, Eliška
Non-pharmacologic methods of influencing pains in the course of delivery and their use Non-pharmacological methods of influencing pains during delivery are such methods in which no medical substance is used. Recently, delivery is claimed not to be entirely safe without medical assistance. Healthy women bear pains of a physiological delivery well, and for that reason it is not necessary to alleviate them artificially. It is sufficient to encourage the woman in labour and create a friendly environment. It is the birth pains that expectant mothers are afraid of, and that is why it is necessary to inform expectant mothers about ways of alleviating birth pains in antenatal courses as well as in the delivery room. Midwives and physicians should offer and provide expectant mothers with non-pharmacological methods of influencing pains during delivery, meet their wishes and requirements concerning pain management and the course of delivery. To obtain information for my thesis, I used a combination of the quantitative and qualitative investigation by means of a questionnaire and conversation. The collection of data was conducted in the District Hospital in Příbram, a.s. The questionnaire was intended for clients after a vaginal delivery in the confinement department. The questionnaire was anonymous and consisted of 26 closed and half-open questions. The semi-structured conversation was conducted with five midwives of the delivery room and contained 30 questions. The questions were open. I set up three objectives, two hypotheses and two research questions in my Bachelor{\crq}s thesis. It has resulted from the survey that all objectives have been fulfilled, both hypotheses confirmed and research answered. This bachelor{\crq}s thesis could be beneficial for medical staffs and the management of the delivery room of the District Hospital in Příbram, a.s., for the orientation in which non-pharmacological methods of influencing pains during delivery expectant mothers are interested, further for enlarging the knowledge of medical staffs non-pharmacological methods of influencing pains during delivery. This bachelor{\crq}s thesis can also be beneficial for medical students of delivery assistance interested in non-pharmacological methods of influencing pains during delivery. Nowadays there is increasing interest in non-pharmacological methods of influencing pains, and therefore it is suitable to make them available. Nowadays, expectant mothers have a possibility of choice how to alleviate delivery pains, and thus keep only pleasant recollections of the delivery. Mothers should leave the delivery room with their babies with the feeling of good care and helpful and empathic staff.
The Pain and Delivery
VICÁNOVÁ, Romana
The topic of my bachelor thesis is pain and confinement. The reason why I selected the topic is that it holds my interest. The theoretical part contains general information explaining what pain is and stating what kinds of pain there are. I aimed to describe in detail in particular parturition that is closely associated with confinement. It is a natural state accompanying almost every confinement. I focused on the mechanism of pain origin and the methods of parturition alleviating. Nowadays parturition can be prevented by various methods. The methods are divided into pharmacological and non-pharmacological. In my bachelor thesis I set three objectives and hypotheses associated with them. The research set were women in the puerperal ward of Nemocnice a. s. České Budějovice. The method of quantitative research was used and the data were collected by means of an anonymous questionnaire.100 questionnaires were distributed, of which 90 were returned. The research part has revealed that hypotheses 1 and 2 have been confirmed and hypothesis 3 potvrena not. The bachelor thesis could be used as an information material for the women in childbed who are not aware of the opportunity to utilize pain relieving methods.Furthermore, as information material for students of medical science.
