Modern finishing methods of implant processing
Večeřa, Tomáš ; Ohnišťová, Petra (referee) ; Píška, Miroslav (advisor)
This paper provides a general overview of joint implants and an overview of used contemporary materials and methods of fabrication of implants, including additive methods. More attention is paid to finishing methods of drag finishing and a new method of dry electropolishing used in DLyte system. In the experimental part, an experiment for analyzing and comparing the effect of DLyte system on a sample surface is proposed. Six samples of titanium alloy Ti6Al4V with different initial roughness are prepared. Their initial surface structure is studied.
Creating geometrical models of selected implants of hip joint
Kohoutek, Jan ; Vosynek, Petr (referee) ; Návrat, Tomáš (advisor)
According to the specification, the concept of the thesis is a research study, which is supposed to present global overview of the hip joint arthroplasty. It involves a short summary of basic methods used in biomechanical measurements of bone tissue and provides a comparison among isotropic homogeneous, isotropic inhomogeneous and orthotropic inhomogeneous material models and their impact on the results of the stress-strain analyses. In the thesis, there is also a short list of popular implants used in present times as well as a few examples of creating geometrical models of some prosthesis.
Friction investigation of coated materials for joint implants
Gelnar, Adam ; Streďanská, Alexandra (referee) ; Nečas, David (advisor)
This bachelor thesis deals with the comparison of the coefficient of friction of different types of DLC coatings applied on two materials used for joint replacements. The experiments also aim to compare the friction as a function of the material pair combination. The friction tests were performed on a Bruker UMT TriboLab tribometer in a pin-on-plate configuration. The surface topography before and after the tests were also analyzed. The measured results show that the pins have lower friction coefficient values against the UHMWPE plate than against the glass. The uncoated samples, although having lower friction values, showed some signs of wear after the tests, while the pins with DLC coatings did not. In view of these findings, it can therefore be assumed that surface modification of commonly used materials with DLC coatings can lead to an extension of the lifetime of joint replacements, and therefore to significant advances in implantology.
