Study of the influences that affect the reactivity of a limestone

This thesis is a part of grant assignment and focuses on the effect and properties of input material, limestone, on reactivity and speed of decarbonation. The aim of this thesis is to find the effect of chemical composition, petrography, genesis and diagenesis, porosity and microstructure of limestones on reactivity and speed and profile of decarbonation. The experimental part of thesis describes analysis of chosen limestone samples regarding porosity, reactivity by Bischof-Uhde method and process of decarbonation of calcite in term of crystallinity of product.
Study of the limestone decarbonation process

The bachelor thesis deals with a research and a description of decarbonation process of limestone during the lime burning. The goal of the bachelor thesis is to try to find a connection between characteristics of input material and course of the decarbonation process, which is monitored by high temperature XRD analysis. There is an evaluation of the microstructure of emerging calcium oxide, especially by the size of the crystallites, in the experimental part.
Study of bioapatite geochemistry using Laser Ablation ICP-MS

This diploma thesis deals with topic of investigating bioapatite from conodont samples using laser ablation ICP-MS. The aim is to evaluate effect of diagenesis on the chemical composition and content of rare earth elements (REE) in the structure of conodonts. During diagenesis, bioapatite was transformed into mineral francolite and as part of this process, adsorbed REE into its crystalline structure. The degree of adsorption of REE was influenced by presence of seawater, presence of siliciclastics in surrounding REE-enriched rocks, redox conditions and also the effects of elements such as Mn and Fe present in the pore water. It was found that a group of conodont samples from the Col des Tribes (France) underwent a major diagenetic transformation, late recrystallization with REE desorption, and also due to the increased presence of Mn ions and influence of the original suboxic conditions contains rarer positive Ce anomalies. While groups of conodont samples from the Mramorový lom near Křtiny (Czech Republic) have undergone a minor diagenetic change, they contain a larger amount of REE elements.

This diploma thesis deals with topic of investigating bioapatite from conodont samples using laser ablation ICP-MS. Study of the influence of limestone firing process on the final properties of hydrated lime

The thesis is a part of grant assignment and focuses on the effect of input materials and their burning on the properties of resulting products, i.e. lime and slaked lime. The aim of the thesis is to find out how the behaviour and properties of lime and slaked lime are influenced by chemical composition of limestone, their petrography, genesis and diagenesis, microstructure and porosity. The subject of the experimental part of the thesis is the evaluation of analysis carried out on burned lime and slaked lime samples. Lime samples are examined in terms of their reactivity and porosity, whereas slaked lime samples in terms of their specific surface and sedimentation volume.
The study of the effect of burning process on the properties of lime

At the institute of technology of building materials and components at the fakulty of civil engineering in Brno was initiated research deal with study of the effect of limestone on the progress of decarbonization. This work is an introductory study into this problems. It focuses on describing the genesis and diagenesis of limestones, their crystallography, texture and requirements for burning. Further describes the extraction and treatment of limestones before burning. In very burning is focused on its mechanism and the used furnace systems. In the experimental part is focused on the analysis of samples of limestones of various world sites in terms of petrology, geological origin, chemical composition, the content of insoluble residues, density and porosity, and analysis of formed limes, burned at 900 °C in terms of density, CO2 content and crystal size.
