Analysis of sleep EEG signal
Music mood and emotion recognition using Music information retrieval techniques
Smělý, Pavel ; Mucha, Ján (referee) ; Kiska, Tomáš (advisor)
This work focuses on scientific area called Music Information Retrieval, more precisely it’s subdivision focusing on the recognition of emotions in music called Music Emotion Recognition. The beginning of the work deals with general overview and definition of MER, categorization of individual methods and offers a comprehensive view of this discipline. The thesis also concentrates on the selection and description of suitable parameters for the recognition of emotions, using tools openSMILE and MIRtoolbox. A freely available DEAM database was used to obtain the set of music recordings and their subjective emotional annotations. The practical part deals with the design of a static dimensional regression evaluation system for numerical prediction of musical emotions in music recordings, more precisely their position in the AV emotional space. The thesis publishes and comments on the results obtained by individual analysis of the significance of individual parameters and for the overall analysis of the prediction of the proposed model.
The Effect of Arousal on the Learning Process
TORÁČOVÁ, Kamila
This bachelor thesis deals with the study of the influence of low-arousal (low-activation) and high-arousal (high-activation) music on the learning process. The theoretical part deals with the process of learning, attention, the mechanism of memory and the conceptualization of arousal as an emotional component and a general component of activation in the field of music. The practical part will be performed in the form of an experiment, in which the learning process will be influenced by the presentation of standardized music recordings evaluated on the basis of arousal. Memorabilia tasks are chosen as experimental tasks, and data analysis will address differences in memorization rates based on the presence of variation of musical activity. The experiment consists of two parts, in the first part the probands try to memorize number series and in the second part a group of words.
ERP correlates of valence in affective priming
MEŠKANOVÁ, Michaela
The bachelor thesis, ERP (event-related potentials) correlates of the valence in affective priming, deals with the affective priming from the point of view of the event related potentials processing by electroencephalography, when it is used experimental presentations with different valence and arousal levels. The aim of this thesis is the approaching of the auditory priming effect on the visual processing impulse. This bachelor thesis is divided into theoretical and practical part, where the theoretical part deals with the general principles of the affective priming, emotions and electroencephalography method, including ERP component. The empirical part deals with the experiment, whose aim was description of the auditory priming effect on the affective processing target by the ERP components. Twenty six respondents took part in the experiment. They saw a presentation made in OpenSesame programme in the total length of sixty minutes. The neural data were scanned from the head scalp by the device Biosemi ActiveTwo with 64 electrodes. In the final processing there were 19 measured samples. After the final processing, I analysed 8 graphs displaying ERP curved lines of the relevant electrodes both the high-arousal and low-arousal processing target level. In the comparison with the studies not including affective auditory priming, all given hypothesis were approved. The final discussion summarizes all possible restrictions that could influence acceptance of the alternative hypothesis.
ERP correlates of arousal in affective priming
Neural correlates of cross-modal affective priming
MRHÁLEK, Tomáš
This dissertation aims to investigate the correlations of visual evoked potentials during the experimental process of serial passive affective priming. The aim of this dissertation is to identify partial processes of affective perception, which are influenced by relations to previous affective priming stimulation. The research is designed as a laboratory EEG experiment, which uses affective priming techniques, particularly its sequential passive multimodal (auditory-visual) variation. The research experimentally manipulates emotional characteristics of stimuli that are constructed on the basis of the dimensional theory. As a starting dimension, arousal was chosen that is equivalent to psychic activation connected to reactions to stimuli. The study was carried out in the PF JČU neurological laboratory using a 64 channel EEG Biosemi Active II. Probands was selected from the JČU students, whose brain electrical activity was measured during an exposure to affective stimuli from international emotional elicitation databases. Records from 29 people were used. The independent variable used was the variation of priming and arousal characteristics of the priming stimulus from the affective melodies database (Eerola &Vuoskoski, 2010) and the arousal characteristics of a visual stimuli (Marchewka et al., 2014). Visual perception is the most explored ERP process, therefore the differences between the results of this dissertation study and comparative studies can be the basis for interpreting the mechanism of contextual affective transmission. Time progress and activation reactions are modulated based on experimental conditions and the dependent variables are the differences of latency and amplitude of individual components of evoked potentials, which represent partial psychological processes. The use of sound as priming stimulus together with a high interstimulus interval decreases the conflict between perceptual processes in selective attention. The differences in processes of visual perception according to affective arousal characteristics of stimuli suggest a parietally increased early posterior negativity (EPN) and late positive potentials (LPP) of high-arousal stimuli in comparison to low-arousal stimuli. Signs of EPN manifest as indicators for prioritization of attention in comparison with actively motivating stimuli. The priming effect manifested in P1 and N1 components occipitoparietally and in N2 centroparietally, which suggest stronger negativity of EPN in the case of previous priming. LPP increase for the priming condition was there only for high-arousal stimuli. The cause for higher activation for priming conditions in P1 and N1 is unknown, it is a case of premature latency for possible explanation using the evaluation mechanism. The results showcase the influence of conflict between processes of attention or the alternative interpretations of affective priming based on the influence of context on the formation of evaluative conclusions. The priming effects in LPP show a lower later parietal activation of primed stimuli which can be connected to their previous increased activation as a part of early and medium latency component.

Association between olfactory abilities, arousal and orgasmicity in women
Hájková, Martina ; Martinec Nováková, Lenka (advisor) ; Vodička, Jan (referee)
Olfaction plays an important role in human mate selection or in ratings of sexual attractiveness of potential mates. Many studies suggest that olfaction is associated with human sexuality and arousal as well, especially in women, for whom the perception of odors is an important aspect not only in mate selection, but also in sexual context. There are steroids called 16-androstenes, which have an unique importance in this issue. These steroids, produced by the apocrine glands, are compounds of human body odor. The aim of the empirical part of this thesis is to research the associations between olfactory abilities and sexual function in women, especially with particular focus on the association of olfactory sensitivity (particularly to androstadienone as well as in general), orgasmicity and arousal, which are two major domains of sexual function. Participants were 90 heterosexual and coupled female students aged 21-30. All participants were tested during the follicular phase of their menstrual cycle. The Sniffin Sticks olfactory test was employed to assess the general olfactory functions. Among others, olfactory sensitivity to androstadienone was measured, as well as the perceived intensity and hedonicity of androstenone, androstenol and andostadienone. Participants filled out set of questionnaires...

The effect of relaxation on affective stimuli processing
KOZOVÁ, Michaela
The main issue of this thesis is to analyze the effect of relaxation on visual affective stimuli. Relaxation influences emotional processing and related EEG response of the individual person. The thesis is divided into two thematic parts: the first on eis theoretical part and the second on eis empirical part. The first part deals with emotions as complex phenomenona. It describes topics as Affective events and Physiology and Regulation of emotions. Important chapter is devoted to the description of Relaxation techniques with focus on Imagination which is used in the experimental part of the thesis. The first empirical part of the thesis deals with experimental verification of the possibility to use relaxation in the unusual settings of a cognitive laboratory. The subsequent part describes EEG measure of brain activity related to processing of visual affective stimuli before and after relaxation. The data were statistically analysed using T-test with multiple FDR comparison. The data were suitable for ERPs - event related potencial analysis. The results of the study were compared with current neuropsychology knowledge.
