This bachelor thesis focuses primarily on preparation and progress of beginning of Japanese annexation of Korea. The thesis defines the fundamental concepts for better understanding of colonialism, imperialism and social Darwinism. The next part describes the state of Asia in the 19th century, outlining the basis of Japanese colonialism. The thesis goes on to describe the historical context for Japanese imperial expansion and concludes with a look at the changes in Korean society caused by Japanese domination.
