Visual abilities of horses in terms of differentiation of individual colors
HOLINKOVÁ, Petra
The bachelor thesis deals with the visual abilities of horses in terms of differentiation of the individual colors. The experiment was involved in 10 horses of various ages, breeds and different stable. The experiment was done on efficient the Faculty of agriculture University of South Bohemia in Čtyři Dvory with five horses and a private farm in Hlincová Hora also with five horses. Were tested the ability of horses to differentiation between red, blue, green and yellow colour. The research was evaluated: the direction of the movement of horses in search of colors, the success in finding the right colors, the relationship between the colors and the time to find the right colors, the relationship between the colors and the number of attempts to find the right colors, the success of the search for individual colors. Very well horse reacted to a yellow color, which found 50% of the horses behind him three times on the first attempt. The red and green color found only 10% of the horses behind him three times on the first attempt. The biggest problems the horses doing the blue color, find no horse here three times in a row. The average time to find the right color was yellow (24,25 second), green (41,5 second), red (55,93 second) and blue (75,33 second). The average number of attempts to find the right color was red (2,11), yellow (2,12), green (3,13) and blue (3,16).
The preparation and use of recreational and sports horses
KOČANDRLOVÁ, Barbora
The bachelor´s thesis deals with the preparation and use of recreational and sports horses. The recreational horses are mainly used for entertainment, riding or leisure (hobby) competitions whereas sports horses (show jumping horses, dressage horses) are used primarily for a certain discipline in which they compete. In the practical part of the thesis, occupational and leisure activities show jumping horses, dressage horses and recreational horses are mentioned. The subject of my observation was the riding regime, that took place between May and August. The activities that the horses were engaged in were evaluated on the basis of the percentage distribution of each work: fieldwork, the riding area, jumping, work on the lunge, work from the ground, competitions and relaxation time of horses. In the detailed analysis, we can see how many hours the horses spent in the given activity through the period of four months. It was found that the fieldwork was the most common physical activity of recreational horses (11 days/horse/month). The most common activity the sports horses were engaged in was work in the riding area (show jumping 7.8 days/horse/month, dressage 7.9 days/horse/month). All groups of horses spent the least amount of time on working from the ground (recreational 0.1 days/horse/month, show jumping 0.3 days/horse/month, dressage 0.1 days/horse/month).
Thyroid Gland Activity in Horses
ŠINÁKLOVÁ, Petra
The bachelor thesis focused on the thyroid gland activity in horses assesses the thyroid gland activity in the selected group of horses based on the production of thyroid hormones (TT4, TT3, fT4 and fT3). Blood was taken from vena jugularis on a one-time basis in cooperation with private veterinarians. Afterwards the levels of thyroid hormones were measured by the RIA method. The thyroid gland activity was evaluated in a total of 12 horses (8 geldings and 4 mares) in the Region of South Bohemia. The average age was 8.5 years. In the tested samples the total T4 hormone was 37.24 +- 9,88 nmol-l-1 on average, while the total T3 hormone was 0.99 +- 0,23 nmol-l-1 on average. Free fractions of T4 hormone was 13.28 +- 2,66 pmol-l-1 on average and free fraction of T3 hormone was 5.43 +- 1,42 pmol-l-1. The highest level of TT4 hormone was measured in hot blood horses (46.03 nmol.l.-1), while the lowest level was in the group consisting of ponies and Huculs (27.86 nmol.l.-1). The highest value of TT3 hormone was in the group of ponies and Huculs (1.13 nmol.l.-1) and the lowest value in cold blood horse breeds (0.74 nmol.l.-1). The highest level of fT4 was in cold blood horse breeds (14.73 pmol.l.-1), while the lowest level was in hot blood horses (12.68 pmol.l.-1). The level of fT3 hormone was highest in hot blood horses (6.02 pmol.l.-1), while the lowest level was in cold blood horses (4.78 pmol.l.-1). The concentration of the total T4 and T3 was higher in mares than in geldings, namely by 1.81 nmol-l-1 and 0.05 nmol-l-1, respectively. By contrast, the concentration of free T3 was lower in mares than in geldings, namely by 0.32 nmol-l-1. The concentration of free T4 was also higher in mares than in geldings, namely by 1.31 nmol-l-1. When comparing our results with the reference values, it is obvious that the concentration of thyroid hormones was at the upper limit of the physiological range or slightly above the limit so lack of iodine and the related reduced thyroid gland activity cannot be presumed in those horses. The relations between the level of the thyroid gland activity and Ca concentrations in blood plasma concurrently with the activity of the alkaline phosphatase (ALP) enzyme were ascertained. The correlation coefficients showed a negative effect of an increased thyroid gland activity on the bone tissue metabolism and increased decalcification.

The use of homeopathy in horse breeding
BAŠTÝŘOVÁ BRUTOVSKÁ, Anna
The main aim of the diploma thesis is to compare the effectivity of homeopathy and classic chemical way of deworming of horses. In total 18 horses were included in the observation, who were all stabled on one farm. The observation took place during one pasture season. The first faecal examination was carried out for the purpose of qualitative analysis of occurrence of parasites in horses' digestive tract. Subsequently, each faecal examination was realized as a quantitative analysis using the modified McMaster technique. Faecal analysis was carried out always before and after the use of both dewormers (homeopathic and allopathic). The horses treated with homeopathic dewormer were tested more frequently. Faecal sample diagnostics showed contamination by only two types of parasites, small and large strongyles. Coprology analysis proved excellent effectivity of allopathic dewormers and zero resistance to the active substance. The homeopathic dewormer managed to keep some horses at low level infection, where EPG was below 200 (eggs per gram). The effectivity of both dewormers was realized in three cases. Faecal analysis after anthelmintic treatment was chosen in the first case. In the second case the difference between the two dewormers was analyzed after a given period of time following the application. In the third case the overall differences between both dewormers were assessed. It can be stated that the homeopathic dewormer PVB etat vermieux can be successfully used as supplementary and prophylactic treatment of horses during the year. At the same time it is important to give attention to regular faecal analysis and eventual use of allopathic dewormers after the testing. The use of homeopathy, however, is advantageous from both the ecological and health point of view.

EVALUATION OF WARMBLOOD STALLION PERFORMANCE TESTING SYSTEM
OSTRÝ, Václav
The thesis evaluates the performance testing system of Czech Warmblood stallions. Data acquired from basic stallion preformance test were analysed. Analysed data covered figures of 302 stallions from 9 test stations, taken in years 2007 to 2010. 12 traits of each stallion were analysed. Only basic statistic characteristics were used. Traits were compared by years, testing stations and especially by preferred sirs. The statistic evaluation of traits pointed the best sirs for breeding. Average marks and variability of offspring were taken into acount. Best sirs were Le Patron (x? = 7,84; variability = 2,5 %, Porter (x? = 7,73; variability = 3,0 %) Catango Z (x? = 7,86; variability = 4,4 %) and Przedswit XVI - 12 (x? = 7,85; variabiliy = 4,7 %). Suggestions for improvment of objectivity in performance testing system of Czech Warmblood were given on basis of evaluation component trait/overal score relations. Frequent usage of foreign stallions in Czech Warmblood breeding is common. It is importatnt, for breeders to be familiar with performance testing of foreign breeds. Therefore short description of stallion performence testing across Europe is included in thesis.
