Nanoparticles formed by complexes of copolymers with low-molar-mass compounds
Vojtová, Jana
This thesis is focused on mixed systems of various copolymers (double hydrophilic block and gradient polyelectrolytes, hydrophobic graft copolymers) and low-molar-mass compounds (sodium dodecyl sulfate as a representative of a ionic surfactant or superparamagnetic iron oxides in the form of nanocrystals). The electrostatic and hydrophobic interactions in the studied systems in aqueous solutions leading to aggregation behavior and to the formation of co-assembled nanoparticles were investigated by combination of scattering and microscopy techniques, including light, X-ray and neutron scattering, electron microscopy and atomic force microscopy. Monolayers of platinum nanoparticles prepared by dip-coating
Černohorský, Ondřej ; Grym, Jan ; Yatskiv, Roman ; Pham, V.H. ; Hudry, D. ; Dickerson, J.H.
Platinum is a transition metal known for its catalytic properties, which are further enhanced when employed in a nanoparticle form. We have recently shown that a monolayer of Pt nanoparticles deposited on semiconductor substrates forms high quality Schottky diodes, which were used in sensitive hydrogen sensors with a detection limit of 1 ppm of H-2 in N-2. Preparation of ordered monolayers of Pt nanoparticles is essential for the understanding of the behaviour of such an interface. To obtain a hexagonal closed-packed nanoparticle array, we prepared Pt nanoparticles stabilized by oleylamine and oleic acid with a narrow size distribution and uniform shapes. A monolayer prepared by dip-coating of Si substrate in the suspension containing Pt nanoparticles showed hexagonal arrangement within separate domains with the surface coverage up to 90%. The increase of the surface coverage with increasing withdrawal speed of the dip-coating process was observed

Single Atomic Catalysts
Závodný, Adam ; Švec,, Martin (referee) ; Čechal, Jan (advisor)
Single atom catalysts are prospective class of materials, which holds promises to reach the ultimate limit of improvement in catalyst performance, selectivity, lifetime and cost reduction. The ability to efficiently capture the adsorbates at the active sites is the key prerequisite for catalytic transformation to the products. In this respect, our experimental study aims to describe the interaction of gas molecules (H2O, CO, O2 and NO) with single metal atoms (Rh, Ir, Cu) on the magnetite surface employing scanning tunneling microscopy.
Ordered and disordered arrays of colloidal nanoparticles for biomolecule detection
Ligmajer, Filip ; Rezek, Bohuslav (referee) ; Kolíbal, Miroslav (advisor)
This thesis deals with guided self-assembly of gold nanoparticles from their colloidal solutions onto silicon substrates and possible employment of nanoparticles for detection of biomolecules. It was found that by adjustment of solution pH and surface chemistry modification by means of electron beam irradiation it is possible to facilitate nanoparticle deposition to patterns with almost single particle precision. Spectroscopic ellipsometry was then employed in analysis of self-assembled layers of nanoparticles and its combination with a theory of effective medium approximation has proven the ability to assess nanoparticle dimensions and volume fractions. By experiments with thiolated oligonucleotides it has been shown that using ellipsometry one can detect even with very subtle changes in nanoparticle environment caused by biomolecules, thus promising its possible use in the field of biodetection.
Preparation and characterization of self assembled polymer nanocomposites
Electrostatic assembly of alumina nanoparticles on nanocrystalline diamond films
Verveniotis, Elisseos ; Kromka, Alexander ; Rezek, Bohuslav
We apply atomic force microscope for local electrostatic charging of oxygen-terminated nanocrystalline diamond (NCD) thin films deposited on silicon, to induce electrostatically driven self-assembly of colloidal alumina nanoparticles into micro-patterns. The NCD films have sub-100 nm thickness and 60% relative sp2 phase content. We characterize charge contrast and stability in air, fluorocarbon oil and water by Kelvin force microscopy. We discuss factors influencing the charging process and demonstrate that the contrast of more than ± 1 V is needed to induce selfassembly of the nanoparticles via coulombic and polarization forces.
[Mechanismus vzniku spontánně tvořených nanostruktůr při heteroepitaxy
Kotrla, Miroslav ; Volkmann, T. ; Much, F. ; Biehl, M.
We briefly review the recent results on formation of self-assembled nanostructures during heteroepitaxy of immiscible metals. The methods of microscopic modelling of multicomponent growth are described. Results of simulation of self-assembled structures with alternating strips using both lattice and off-lattice atomistic models are presented.
Samouspořádané struktury ve směsích blokových kopolymerů
Holoubek, Jaroslav ; Baldrian, Josef ; Lal, J.
Phenomena associated with the order-disorder transition, microdomain morphology and phase behaviour of deuterated block copolymer mixture were studied by small-angle X-ray scattering and small-angle neutron scattering.
