New Rock Mechanics Testing and Measuring System at the Institute of Geonics
Janeček, Ivan ; Mishra, D.
New research tasks of the Department of laboratory research on geomaterials at the Institute of Geonics required improvement of experimental technique for investigation of the geomechanical properties of rocks and mastering of new rock testing methods as well. A new computer controlled hydraulic press with large set of adaptive accessories could meet the demands. With EU support of the project Institute of Clean Technologies for Mining and Utilization of Raw Materials for Energy Use (CZ.1.05/2.1.00/03.0082), a new Rock Mechanics System of the MTS Corporation was purchased, installed and put into operation.
Cable bolts utilization in thick seam mining
Kukutsch, Radovan ; Šňupárek, Richard ; Waclawik, Petr
On the basis of different field and laboratory studies, a mining method called „cable bolting based thick seam depillaring“ has been developed CSIR-CIMFR to meet the technical challenges arising during underground extraction of a thick coal seam of India. This method is based on two simple principles of rock-mass reinforcement: (a) improvement in strength of the reinforcement with increase in the confinement and (b) dilution in strength of the reinforcement under tensile condition of the host rock mass. This method is being used by a number of Indian coal mines for depillaring of total thickness (up to 7.5 m) of a thick coal seam (developed along the floor horizon) in single lift. This paper presents application of the method at Madhusudanpur 7 Pit and Incline mine.

Methodology for 3D visualization of buildings and structure of geomaterials using industrial X-ray computed tomography - principles for ensuring the quality of tomographic data
Souček, Kamil ; Staš, Lubomír
Worked out methodology was created for the determination of the basic procedures designed for obtaining the best possible quality tomographic data using X-ray computed tomography. The methodology was created for the needs of 3D visualization of the geomaterials internal structure (eg. rock, soil, building materials, goecomposites etc.) and for the purposes of carrying out qualitative and quantitative non-destructive material analysis of 3D internal structure of investigated geomaterials. Obtaining the high-quality tomographic data represents primarily the process of setting various parameters of X-ray CT scanners, which are described in this methodology. The indisputable advantage and the novelty of this methodology present its non-destructivity and possibility for analysis of investigated geo-materials in three-dimensional space. The methodology has been prepared and it can be used for two types of X-ray CT scanners from Nikon Metrology NV company XT H 450 2D/3D and XT H 225 ST.

Methodical instructions for secure stability of mine roadways in great depth
Koníček, Petr ; Šňupárek, Richard ; Konečný, Petr ; Ptáček, Jiří ; Kukutsch, Radovan ; Kajzar, Vlastimil ; Waclawik, Petr ; Souček, Kamil ; Staš, Lubomír ; Hortvík, Karel ; Konečný, Pavel
Methodology provides instructions for safe and economic design of roadways for mining and mining design companies in conditions of the Czech part of the Upper Silesian Coal Basin. Methodology covers area of all used roadway support as a steel arch support, rock bolt and cable bolt support as well as methods of grouting for stability and reinforcement of roadways.
The Analysis of Material Inner Structure and Industry X-ray Computed Microtomography
Souček, Kamil
In recent decades, non-destructive methods of materials analysis have been used increasingly for the study of different kinds of materials. Especially, it concerns the method of the X-ray industry computed microtomography (CT). This paper is elaborated on the basis of the experiences of X-ray CT use within the frame of research activities of the Institute of Geonics ASCR. Particularly, the possibilities and examples of the different kind material research by X-ray CT are presented. The X-ray CT systems fy. Nikom Metrology X TH 225 ST and XT H 450 at Institute of Geonics cover a wide range of the X-ray CT and radiography applications in the fields of analysis of materials and geomaterials (e.g. analysis of the pore space, inner structure and their defects), the inspection of small castings and plastic parts, as well as in the fields of palaeontology (e.g. inspection of bones, sculls, fossils etc.), size measurement of internal dimensions of the components, defectoscopy of machines and equipment parts and also in the field of biological structures analysis.

Stability of suspension bridges in lateral wind
Malík, Josef
The collapse of the original Tacoma suspension bridge has been studied in many papers. On 7 November 1940 around 10 a.m. the torsional oscillations appeared on the deck of the original Tacoma bridge after the loosening of one midspan cable band, which resulted in the lateral asymmetry of the construction. It seems that the loosening of the midspan cable band had a significant impact on the behavior of the bridge and in the end it resulted in the collapse.

Present situation and development trends in the area of underground nuclear waste storage sites
Šňupárek, Richard ; Kukutsch, Radovan ; Koníček, Petr
A secure solution of nuclear power plants fuel cycle end is undoubtedly a great technical challenge facing all developed countries, using nuclear energy. High demands on safety performance target solutions are enhanced primarily by the requirement to actually "geological" life of the project period, which represents a period of about 100,000 years. Although currently is not implemented yet neither persistent storage, it is interesting to compare the solutions prepared in different countries from different aspects of natural conditions, structures, volume and time schedules or ongoing research programs. The subject paper is based on publicly available information sources, especially from the pu-blications and presentations at scientific conferences in the last 2 years.

Removal of polyurea spray coatings from the surface of cement concrete by water jet technology
Ščučka, Jiří ; Bódi, Z. ; Hlaváček, Petr ; Klich, Jiří ; Martinec, Petr ; Foldyna, Josef
The paper is focused on the removal of polyurea spray coatings from the surface of cement concrete by the water jet technology. A series of experiments was conducted to disintegrate a defined polyurea spray coat layer on the surface of cement concrete tiles using different configurations of the water jet system. The results of these experiments have confirmed that the continuous water jet was highly effective in removing the spray coat, causing no damage to the concrete substrate underneath. The partial experimental results have also indicated that this process can be used to produce an anti-skid finish on polyurea spray coatings applied onto horizontal structures.

Research on effects of pulsating water jets on concrete
Sitek, Libor ; Bodnárová, L.
An article briefly presents results achieved during laboratory and in-situ tests of removing surface layers of concrete exposed to various environments using several types of high-velocity water jets commonly used in the rehabilitation praxis or advanced water jets the use of which is expected in the near future. The effects of pulsating jets were always compared with classical continuous jets under identical or similar working conditions.
