Jindřich Šolc and his activity at the head of the Prague municipal government

The aim of this thesis is to map the situation at the Prague City Hall between 1887 and 1893 during the governance of mayor Jindřich Šolc. The introduction deals with the development of the capital city of the Kingdom of Bohemia in the second half of the nineteenth century, and personal and public life of Jindřich Šolc. The thesis is based on materials of Prague City Archives and contemporary press reflecting actual events. It analysis the events of public interest and tries to describe the crucial problems and the greatest achievements of the local government of that time. It depicts the mayor's unusual start of his office, and on the example of two scandals it tries to show his complicated position. It monitors the implementation of particular municipal projects, shows the difficulties associated with the language issues and focuses on the relations between the Old Czechs' majority and the Young Czechs' opposition. It describes in detail the process of election battles that resulted into Jindřich Šolc leaving the local politics, followed by concluding of the town hall compromising agreement, ensuring the National Liberal Party (Young Czechs) stronger representation in the city council. Municipal self-government in the Czech Republic (illustrated on the example of Kralupy nad Vltavou City)

The main goal of this thesis named Municipal self-government in the Czech Republic (illustrated on the example of Kralupy nad Vltavou City) is to process and summarize the framework of municipal function in both theoretical and practical way. Also, it is shown how to use the knowledge for didactic purposes. Therefore the thesis is divided into the theoretical, practical and didactic part. The theory answers the questions such as What is self-government? By whom is it executed and where? How is it controlled? The practical part continuously uses collected information and shows how each of self-government aspects works in concrete example of Kralupy nad Vltavou City. The third part is focused on how to apply this issue in teacher training.
History of the Sokol Club I. Smíchov

Title: The History of the Sokol Club I. Smíchov Abstract: This bachelor thesis deals with history of Sokol Club I. Smíchov since its establishment till year 1940. The aim of this thesis is not only to describe its history and activities but also shortly give account of Sokol Club. The part of thesis attends to history of the town of Smíchov which is definitely connected with Sokol Club Smíchov. The thesis called "The history of the Sokol Club I. Smíchov" is based on research on historical sources and literature. Mostly I insisted on archival documents from The National Museum, The Collection of Physical Education and Sport and on archival documents of Sokol Club I. Smíchov. From literature I used publications about history of the town of Smíchov and about history and persons of consequence of the Sokol Club. The thesis consists of three parts. The first part is divided into an introduction and an analysis of archival documents, literature and working methods. The Development of Local Government in the Municipality of Klatovy

This thesis is entitled The development of local government in the municipality of Klatovy. The main aim of this work is to analyse municipal policies and political mechanisms in local self-government within the election period since 2014 to 2018, and to identify unique aspects of self-government particular to this locality. This project has been divided into two parts: theoretical and practical. The theoretical part outlines basic concepts relating to municipality, local self-government members, municipal election processes, formation of coalitions, and civil and political participation. The practical part is focused on the town of Klatovy: socioeconomic indicators, summary of election results since 1994, characteristics of local municipal policy during the election period since 2014 to 2018, self-government members and relationships between them, and their co-operation in the running of the municipality. This work also focuses on current problems in local municipal policy and possibly solutions.
Territorial Administration in the Czech Republic - the direct election of mayors

The starting point of the diploma thesis is a discussion of the direct election of mayors in the Czech Republic. The aim of the thesis in this context is to assess whether the direct election of mayors is appropriate in the normative framework of territorial administration of Czech municipalities and if so, under what circumstances. A partial aim of the work, intended to lead to the fulfilment of the main aim, is the description of the formal role of mayors in the administration of municipalities, the description of the manner of appointment of mayors into their positions, as well as the description of the anchoring of the position and election of mayors of municipalities in selected European countries. Another partial aim is the description of starting points for the direct election of mayors, stemming from the attitudes of mayors of selected municipalities. The subject of study will be the normative setting of the mayors position in the regional administration in the Czech Republic and simultaneously the manner of their election. Another subject of study will be the attitudes of various mayors in relation to the issue of their formal position and election. The data on the mayors attitudes will be obtained by the focus group technique. The criterion for the selection of respondents will be the municipality size. The purpose of the work is to generalize the data obtained and to assess it on the basis of the prevailing opinion.

The Development of Local Government in the Municipality of Chanovice

The thesis deals with the development of the village Chanovice located in the Pilsen region on the western edge of the Klatovy district. It has six local districts, whose history is introduced. Part called Development of demographic shows regressive development of the population and its movement. The urban structure characterizes the appearance of the village and information on economic activity added perspective on employment in the region. In following part is presented the structure of the Municipal Authority, including councilors and mayor, who are the key players in local politics and thus indicate the direction in the development of the municipality. We can also look into the municipal budget in a simple summary of revenues and expenses. A considerable role in small villages is played by local communities and associations, of which there are countless in Chanovice and thus there are presented just those they have the greatest influence on the running of the village. The important part is the performance of political actors and description of each electoral period starting after the revolution in 1990 to 2014. In this part are mentioned some conflicts with which the Municipality meets and face them. Most information was obtained from semi-structured interviews, which were conducted with representatives of local political movements and former local politicians, and based on the method of understanding interview then interpreted in this thesis.
Political aspects of local government – political system of municipalities of Klatovy region

This diploma thesis is focused on the verification of the theory application coming from the conclusions of Stanislav Balíks thesis, which generalizes election behaviour during elections for local authority and it is based on an analysis of election facts in the regions of Šumperk and Jeseník. The aim of the thesis is to verify whether the theory conclusions are applicable to the results interpretation of election behaviour and the characteristics of the party system in other regions of the Czech Republic. The thesis is divided into two parts, theoretical and practical. In the theoretical part there is worked on the theoretical and legislative conclusions and Stanislav Balíks thesis. The thesis itself starts with the basic characteristics of the region of Klatovy, its administrative and demographic structuring. The core of the thesis is the data analysis of the Czech Statistical office, concerning the elections from 1994 to 2014. The attention is paid on voter turnout at municipality elections depending on different factors and the results of the elections are discussed in detail from the point of view of the suggesting parties and the number of women in municipality politics. The last chapters include a summary of the data from the region of Klatovy, it is compared with the results of Stanislav Balíks thesis and the application of his theory in another region in the Czech Republic is discussed.
The Development of Local Government in the Municipality of Horní Cerekev

The thesis deals with the development of local government in the village of Horni Cerekev. The work is conceived as a case study. Thematic framework for the work starts in 1990 and continues to the present. The work depicts Individual municipal elections as an element shaping the local political environment and summarizes the development of the political scene in relation to local government. The introductory part describes the basic theoretical background of the local rural area of the municipality. The work is based on political science theory. The work also defines the context and specificity of municipal elections, the basic characteristics of the typology of the political scene municipalities, mayor types including municipal systems. The theoretical part sets the basis for the practical part. Describing the socio-economic indicators of the village continues in the practical part of the work focusingon on semi-structured interviews to evaluate the local political scene, principles of functioning of local party system and identification of political participants.
The Status and Role of the Mayor in the Context of Local Government

Thesis deals with a local government in the Czech Republic, particulary with normative duties of the mayors and knowledge of the performance of their duties. Theoretical chapter of the thesis defines mainly normative area of the performance and municipality mayors function in the Czech Republic. Practical part of the thesis concentrates on assessement of mayors (from selected villages) awareness of their duties and awareness of real options they have to gain the information for the performance of their job. Key data are obtained through the semistructured interview with the mayors of selected villages.Thesis came to result, that the mayors gain the information about their duties during their active work. Thesis also valorized the possibilities of education.
