The problems of Alzheimer's disease represent socially serious and very important subject at present due to the fact that our generation is growing old, which will obviously result in increasing frequency of Alzheimer?s disease occurrence. This diploma work is divided in two parts: theoretical part and practical part. In the theoretical part there are causes, signs and symptoms, diagnosis and therapy of Alzheimer?s disease. Furthermore there is a conceptual framework of nursing care applied to the patients suffering from Alzheimer?s disease according to nursing model by Virginia Henderson. In addition to it burn out syndrome is mentioned here because due to the syndrome the nursing personnel is exposed to extreme psychic and physical load. The Alzheimer Programme Plan in the Czech Republic is presented in order to get better idea about activities in our country. In the practical part of this diploma work we laid down the following three objectives. The first objective was to ascertain exacting character of nursing work of the nurses taking care of the patients suffering from Alzheimer?s disease. The second objective was to ascertain what is considered by nurses to be the most problematic area within the range of nursing care of the aforementioned patients suffering from Alzheimer?s disease and the third objective of our research was to ascertain the contribution of specialised Alzheimer centres. The above-specified objectives have been fulfilled. In addition to it another research questions have been defined as follows: what is the level of exacting character of nursing work of the nurses taking care of the patients suffering from Alzheimer?s disease, what do the nurses see as the most problematic area within the range of nursing care of the aforementioned patients suffering from Alzheimer?s disease within the range of nursing care, what is the contribution of specialised Alzheimer centres and what nursing care should be provided in the specialised Alzheimer centres. Data acquisition and collection have been performed by applying the method of non-standard structured interview. The research work took place in Psychiatric Ward of the Hospital of České Budějovice a.s. (Joint stock company), in Alzheimer Centre named Loucký Mlýn near the town of Vodňany and in Alzheimer Centre in the town of Písek, and in Home of Old People in the village of Dobrá Voda. The answers of the interviewed nurses have been worked out in the form of sixteen case reports and subsequently category matrices (tables) containing the most important data were created from the aforementioned reports. The examination took place in the time period from March 2011 to June 2011. The results of our work could serve as a feedback for hospitals and sanatoria first of all for those where the examinations took place. Furthermore the results may be used for keeping public informed about the possibilities of helping patients suffering from Alzheimer?s disease e.g. in the form of information booklet.
"Experiencing of aggressive symptoms at people with dementia by the patients´ relatives{\crq}q"
KRZOKOVÁ, Silvie
I chose the given topic not only because I consider this issue to be important and serious, but also because the majority of lay family caregivers, taking care of people with dementia and meeting their signs of inappropriate behaviour including an aggression, experience predominantly negative emotions. In term of the caregivers it is important how they perceive their care for an aggressive member of the family, how they experience it and what are treatment effects and impacts on their psychological stress. In an introductory part of the thesis there is summarized a current knowledge on the given issue. I deal with a definition of the dementia in individual chapters, by its epidemiology, diagnostics and examination methods, by therapies of the dementia, its classification, stages of the dementia and its clinical symptoms. In the next chapter I describe aggressive behaviours at the dementia syndrome, in this context then I pay an attention to caregivers´ emotions, their experience and finally I deal with the caregivers´ role and potential risks and impacts on their increased psychological stress. The following chapters bring research results, whose aim was to find out, how relatives of the people with the dementia diagnosis experience the aggressive behaviour of their closest. I chose a quantitative research combining qualitative and quantitative methodologies in the thesis. To obtain the necessary data I used a method of the questioning; a technique of the data collection was an anonymous questionnaire, which was used to determine hypotheses. The acquired data were processed and evaluated in a graphic form and the defined hypotheses were verified by it. At the end of this thesis there were carried out a summary and an evaluation of the survey results.

VESELÁ, Hana
A theoretical part of the thesis is focused on Alzheimer´s disease (hereinafter only AD), its development, diagnosis and treatment. It describes communication problems with a person with dementia. It is also focused on a family caregiver and social services which are available for persons with AD. One objective was defined for the practical part. The aim of the thesis was to describe health and social care of people with AD in the district of Jihlava. A partial objective was to chart problems which lay caregivers, caring of a person with AD at home, fumble with. To realize the research I used an interviewing method and a technique of a semi-structured interview at six caregivers who care of a person with AD in the district of Jihlava and a method of a document analysis, a technique of a secondary data analysis. The research was carried out in the period from 20th January to 4th March, 2011 in caregivers´ households from the district of Jihlava. During interviews with respondents their anonymity was preserved. There was found out that 4 of 6 caregivers live in a common household with the person with AD from the analysed and evaluated interviews. All interviewed caregivers underestimated early symptoms of AD and confused them with symptoms of physiologic ageing. 5 of 6 caregivers do not know the Czech Alzheimer Society. All interviewed caregivers indicate the caregiver´s mental stress as the most difficult thing in the care of the person with AD. There was created a table of facilities providing residential health and social services for persons with AD in the region of Vysočina within the secondary data analysis. The bachelor thesis will serve as a basis for Diaconate ECBB in Myslibořice for a consultancy provided in an area of the residential health and social services in the region of Vysočina. The thesis could be used as a basis for a preparation of a community plan of the social services in the region of Vysočina.

Memory disorders in old age
KROUPOVÁ, Jitka
Memory changes or disorders are typical for old age. The ability to absorb new information, to store it in memory and the subsequent information processing decline in old age. The dividing line between memory impairment and dementia is very vague. Czech Alzheimer Society deals with people affected by dementia. The organisation was launched in June 2008 under a project called Days of memory, project of the early memory disorders detection promotion. The practical part of my thesis deals with the project Days of memory. The first goal of the practical part is to find the reasons why clients suffering from memory disorders seek help at the ČALS contact point {--} the Centre for the Elderly PATUP in ZSF JU. The second aim of the practical part is to compare experiences of the ČALS contact point workers who are involved in the Project of the early memory disorders detection promotion, "Days of Memory", in memory scanning. The data required for the practical part of the thesis were obtained by a combination of a qualitative and quantitative research.
STRATEGY OF CARE WITH DEMENTIAL PROBLEMS AT A SPECIALIZED DEPARTMENT OF CARE UNIT AT KOBYLISY SENIOR HOME
LELÁKOVÁ, Dagmar
In my bachelor´s thesis I focus on the efficiency of the working methods of the personnel in the integration of activization programs and in the development of predispositions and abilities of individual clients with dementia at the Department of Specialized Care for People with Dementia, hic his a part of the Home for the Elderly, Prague-Kobylisy. In the theoretical part I explain the notion of dementia, describing the types of dementia, its manifestations, stadia and therapeutical methods. Furthermore, I describe the principles of communication with persons stricken by this disease, the evaluation of cognitive and functional abilities of afflicted people, needs of the personnel, activities and therapeutical methods used in the institutional care. The practical part relied on the qualitative research. Techniques applied for data gathering included concerned and unconcerned observation, interview and case studies. The secondary data analysis served as an auxiliary method. The central criteria applied in the selection of CASE was dementia and the terminated adaptation period. For the present research there were selected altogether 20 respondents aged 63 - 97 years afflicted by dementia of various types and in different stages of development. Out of the selected group of 20 respondents 6 persons were chosen for detailed case studies. The central objective of the work was to find out whether this group of clients with dementia can really benefit from the working methods applied at this particular specialized department. The target no. 2 was to find out whether the applied methods contribute to the longest possible preservation of self-sufficiency of clients with dementia. The target no. 3 was to convince family members to maximally collaborate with the personnel. In my view, the targets no. 1 and 3 were fully accomplished. The accomplishment of target no. 2 is relative and differs in individual CASE since the self-sufficiency of respondents gradually diminishes depending on their aging and disease advancement. Persons stricken by dementia are unable to take care of themselves, they have problems in expressing themselves, as if living in their own world, however, they do have their own needs, experiences and joys. These needs can be met by a caring family. However, the strength of the family is limited and very often it happens that the family is totally exhausted and unable to take care of the client. At that point it is necessary to provide institutional care by trained personnel that would ensure clients with dementia a kind and secure atmosphere.
Influence of the Taoist Tai Chi practice on health of seniors
ŠMEJDOVÁ, Veronika
In this thesis, titled ?The Effect of Taoist Tai Chi on the Health of Senior Citizens?, I focused on the factors influencing the physical and mental welfare of seniors who practiced Chinese health exercises - Taoist tai chi. My observations lasted seven months; they took place once a week for 45 minutes. All the clients volunteered in the exercise activities. The research group consisted of the clients of the Home for Senior Citizens and the Home with Special Regimen in Kobylisy. The theoretical part provides the explanations of old age, dementia and its manifestations, the importance of exercise for seniors, and I also introduce the Taoist Tai Chi Society. The last section is devoted to Taoist movements and their effects on the human organism. The practical part describes the individual tai chi movements, the principles of practicing Taoist tai chi and I answer research questions. The objective of the thesis was to learn whether tai chi exercise affects in some way the physical condition of the facility?s clients and whether it is beneficial for these clients. To obtain the results, I chose a qualitative research. The methods and techniques of data collection are based on participating observation, interviews and data analysis. The research group consisted of the clients of the Home for Senior Citizens and the Home with Special Regimen in Kobylisy. I focused on the ways Taoist tai chi influenced the physical and mental welfare of the clients. Semi-controlled interviews were conducted with clients without dementia. The target group consisted of six clients without dementia syndrome, and 6 seniors with the disease. The total number of 30 clients participated in the exercises. The results were processed in the form of a case study. The research shows that the seniors experienced improvements in joint and muscle mobility and the exercises usually affected their mood in a positive way. Better coordination could not be fully demonstrated for all movements. Based on the information obtained and the research results reached, the thesis will be beneficial for the Taoist Tai Chi Society and the homes for senior citizens in Kobylisy. It may also serve to organizations concerned with the use of seniors? free time, social care facilities, as well as feedback to instructors and the institutions mentioned.
