Modern National Novel in Central Europe

in English The papers contain a finding of the national literature in between novels in the Central Europe at the age of modernism in 20s and 30s o 20th century. The idea definition of national novel in the literatures of Central Europe is difficult and complicated process. This papers work with literal texts as a part of national literature with polish novel Przedwiośnie by Stefan Zeromsky, hungarian novel Édes Anna by Deszo Kosztolanyi, slovakian novel Cesta životom by Ladislav Nádasi-Jégé, czech novel Osudy dobrého vojáka Švejka by Jaroslav Hašek and austrian novel Mann ohne Eingeschafen by Robert Musil. The finding is divided into two parts - first is finding of national novel - second is about national character. Both situations are actualized with new terms - novel of the nation and character of the nation. Both literary terms correspond to objects that are not directly denouncing the life of the nation, but produces its main ideas and identification. The slovakian and the hungarian novel focus on the struggle of individual characters with society and their new status. In the contrary to the austrian and the czech novel reveal the principle of applying national characteristics in literary philosophical swirl. The polish novel is stranded somewhere in between these two types of novel. Key...

Kundera's Theory of Art

This bachelor thesis deals with analysis of texts written by Milan Kundera, especially with his essays. The aim of this thesis is to find the key topics of his theoretical reflection essays and to evaluate whether it heads towards a coherent art theory. The main topics include general reflections on art, novel, lyric poetry, music, critics and "existentials", which are analysed in a complex way. This thesis also considers the level of coherency of topics and themes generally used in the work of Milan Kundera.

Teoretická část práce se bude zabývat charakteristikou autora a jeho typu poetiky, dále teorií literárních postav a různých typologií dle vybraných teoretiků. V následující části budou podrobně rozebírány důležité postavy z děl Milana Kundery, budou analyzovány charaktery a zdůrazněny podstatné rysy postav. Dále se práce bude soustředit na míru realističnosti postav a jejich vykreslení. Výklad a interpretace bude důsledně vycházet ze studovaných textů

Female Figures in the 19th Century Literature

The content of this Bachelor thesis is to map the physical representation of female characters, their actions and social situating in selected novels of the 19th century. There will be characterization of the typical elements of the novel and the thesis will focus on analyzing the views of the social inclusion of women in realistic novels. The aim is to make the typology of female characters and their fates in novels: Anna Karenina by Leo Tolstoy, Madame Bovary by Gustave Flaubert and Frantina by Karolina Světlá. On the basis of this typology, the thesis will analyze the social and moral issues of woman at this time.

Kulturní a historické pozadí románu E. L. Doctorowa Ragtime

The aim of this bachelor thesis is to judge and to find the difference between fact and fiction in the novel of E. L. Doctorow Ragtime. The narrative technique of the music style ragtime is considered in this novel as well. The research is focused especially on characters that actually existed and that were put into a fictional story. The next aim of this bachelor thesis is the analysis of the book which was published in 1975 and got many prestigious awards. The analysis contains the introduction of the novel, classification in a historical context and the comparison with the film (1981) by the director Miloš Forman. In this thesis there is information about the author E. L. Doctorow and his most significant pieces of work, about the Jewish and Southern literature, their specific authors and the context of Jewish literature of the 2nd half of 20th century.

Allegory in Bunyan´s Pilgrim´s Progress: Spiritual and Psychological Journey to the Self

This thesis deals with the allegorical features of the novel The Pilgrim?s Progress (1678) by John Bunyan. Based on the comparison with the medieval form of allegory, the morality play, and with regard to the areas of narrative techniques, relationship between verse and prose, and the role of characters in both works, it tries to examine the transition from pure allegory to the modern novel. The connection with the edifying principle typical of Puritan literature is discussed and the aspects of psychological introspection and resulting modernity of the work are stated.

Ancient motifs in the world of the last Rosenbergs

The diploma thesis deals with the forms of self-representation of the last Rosenbergs. They were using the representations to support their political positions. The paper is based on a study of the panegyrics and symbolic decorations of the Rosenbergs' castles that were used to present the virtues of the Renaissance nobleman. The study analyzes Roman motifs of the Rosenbergs' propaganda. It tries to capture the views of particular individuals on selected ancient motifs from representation of the Rosenbergs. Ancient exempla presented the Rosenbergs by using the language of symbolic communication as Christian knights.
