The following bachalor thesis gives an overview at the causes, process and consequences of the financial Crisis in the USA and its spread into the global economy. The attention is focusing on characteristics of the terms that are related to the crisis itself, the causes that led to the origin of the housing bubble in the USA and describes the process of securitization. It also describes the destructive effects of the crisis on macroeconomic indicants.
Role finančních derivátů a strukturovaných produktů v subprime krizi 2007

This paper is addressing the topic of financial crises and focuses mainly on the US 2007 subprime mortgage crisis. It examines the causes of the current meltdown and provides an introduction to relevant financial derivatives and structured products in the roots of the crisis (CDS, CDO, MBS, RMBS). The paper describes the period before and during the meltdown, focusing on the instruments' and securitization weaknesses, including their rating assessment and inadequate regulation and impact on reducing the capital cushion in the economy. It also suggests possible solutions to the current financial system shortcomings with the main focus on proper regulation.
Comparison of Czech and American mortgage market

The aim of the submitted bachelor thesis is to provide comparison of two different mortgage markets. I would like outline the main causes leading to the subprime mortgage crisis and point out certain similarities in the development on the Czech mortgage market. The first part is dedicated to defining the basic structure of mortgage loan and identifiying its most important parameters. The following part outlines the most common ways in which banks finance mortgages and how they can influence the mortgage market. The core part of the thesis is dediceted to the events forming American mortgage market and leading to the subprime mortgage crisis. Last part defines the rebirth of Czech mortgage market and its rapid development. Particulary my aim is to point out certain similarities in its recent development but also emphasize that the Czech banking sector can be considered quite sound because of the more conservative approach of Czech banks towards risk.
The causes and consequences of the mortgage crisis in the USA

The main objects of this diploma thesis are basic trends in the mortgage market in the United States and their role in the current mortgage crisis. As a theoretical background in the first part of this work are mentioned asymetric information with the optimal consumer choice regarding mortgage product and the general theory of the securitization. Practical part continues from the description of the main characteristics of the mortgage to the whole mortgage market and the role of government agencies. Following analysis is concerning the significant tendencies in the past years, which dominates in the mortgage market in the USA. The focus is mainly aimed at the growth of alternative mortgage products in connection with strong home price apreciation. Then the position of mortgage brokers and their role in the subprime sector are discusssed. Subprime sector is analysed as well and then the securitization of mortgages as the main trend in the past years is investigated. The development of the current crisis is the object of the last chapter.
