In September survey CVVM investigated opinions of Czech citizens related to the level and future trend of unemployment in Czech Republic as well as to the situation on labour-market in the place of their living. The survey also tried to investigate their eventual behaviour in the course of finding of a new job in the case of being unemployed.

Restructuring of selected industrial corporations in the Ostrava region

Transformation of metallurgy and heavy engineering is a serious problem significantly affecting the entire Ostrava region. The paper depicts the complexity of the whole transformation process since 1989 on an example of the restructuring and development of two giant steel corporations – Vítkovice Steel and Nová huť. The two companies went through a difficult economic situation in the 1990s, which showed in a significant down-scaling of production and in a massive dismissal of workers.

CVVM regularly make a survey about unemployment. Respondents answer a question:what are main causes of unemployment and whether unemployment rate is high a they also talk about future development of unemployment in next two years. Next part of questions is focused on respondent´s job situation and what would he do if he lost his job.
