Social Circus as a Specific Form of Education

Social circus represents an innovative approach that uses circus arts as a universal language to work with a wide range of target groups. The aim of this thesis is to analyze the social circus as a specific form of education, particularly in relation to the instructor's work methods with an emphasis on social-emancipatory goals. The theoretical chapters deal with the characteristics of the social circus, its forms, target groups, and focus on the key principles of the instructor's work and competencies. The thesis further explores the potential of the social circus for the emancipation of the individual and social change and describes the connections between social circus and the field of education. The empirical data obtained through nine semi-structured interviews with instructors are analyzed using the open coding method according to Strauss and Corbin. The aim of the empirical research is to identify the benefits for the participants that the instructors recognize based on their experiences and practice. The findings show that social circus in the Czech environment represents a diverse concept that depends on the specific target group.
