Teaching volumes and surfaces of round solids in high school with the support of a web application
Rakušanová, Lucie ; Robová, Jarmila (advisor) ; Moravcová, Vlasta (referee)
This thesis is focused on the volume and surface area of solids, particularly on the volume and surface area of polyhedra and round solids, which are part of the high school curriculum of geometry (stereometry). The purpose of website is to provide supporting and complementary material for students as well as for their teachers. The website con- tains several photographs, illustrations and interactive components that make it easier to understand the topics. Interactive elements include applets created in a dynamic geometry application called GeoGebra, hyperlinks, and step-by-step exercise solving. Furthermore, the thesis is supplemented by solved problems and a final summary test. 1
Web application for teaching loci of points
Tarabíková, Aneta ; Robová, Jarmila (advisor) ; Moravcová, Vlasta (referee)
This thesis discusses loci of points. The thesis is constructed as a website which should assist mathematic education in primary schools and especially high schools. The thesis revises loci of points, which is taught in schools. Apart from that, it covers the extensive topic of loci of points and conic sections defined with the help of centers of circles with specified characteristics. The website is enhanced by interactive elements, such as applets and step-by-step exercises, which help understand the topic of discussion. 1
Loci of points in non-Euclidean metrics
Skálová, Zuzana ; Moravcová, Vlasta (advisor) ; Škorpilová, Martina (referee)
The topic of this diploma thesis are loci of points and their shape in case of using non-Euclidean metrics. The first chapter contains an overview of various loci of points discussed in school geometry as well as theoretical introduction to metrics and metric spa- ces. The second and third chapter describe the same loci of points, but using manhattan and maximum metrics respectively. All of the loci are accompanied by illustrative images. The last chapter of this thesis is dedicated to the application worksheets, that have been created by the author of this thesis on the topic of loci of points in non-Euclidean metrics. The worksheets can be used by both middle and upper school children. Teachers can find not only the answers but also deepining commentaries and possible additional tasks. 1
Descriptive Geometry Teaching in the Czech Lands
Moravcová, Vlasta ; Bečvář, Jindřich (advisor) ; Janyška, Josef (referee) ; Lávička, Miroslav (referee)
This thesis documents the history of descriptive geometry teaching in the Czech lands from its beginnings (i.e. from the 1830s) to the World War II. The center of the work is the description of development of descriptive geo- metry teaching at secondary schools, especially "Realschule, supplemented with an analysis of Czech secondary school textbooks and a brief comparison between the situation in the Czech lands and foreign countries. Attention is also paid to the characterisation of descriptive geometry lectures at Czech and German polytechnics and universities in Prague, Brno and Příbram, inclusive of university textbooks. The work also mentions a brief global de- velopment of projection methods and a contribution of Czech geometers to the development of descriptive geometry. The thesis is supplemented with large factual and pictorial addenda.
Descriptive geometry applications in cartography
Vlčková, Jana ; Moravcová, Vlasta (advisor) ; Hromadová, Jana (referee)
Title: Descriptive geometry applications in cartography Author: Jana Vlčková Department: Department of Mathematics Education Supervisor: RNDr. Vlasta Moravcová, Ph.D., Department of Mathematics Education Abstract: This thesis is focused on constructions of geographic nets in maps and serves as a base for studies and teaching for teachers and students of secondary schools or universities, which are focused on the cartography field. The thesis contains seven chapters, the first of which describes basic terms used in the thesis. Other chapters deal with the analysis of chosen cartography projections, whereas first three chapters concerns with the projection of the globe into a plane, another two chapters concerns with a cylindrical surface and the last one concerns with a conical surface. Constructive tasks, which serve for practising the subject matter, are enclosed for each chapter. Key words: cartographic projection, azimuthal projection, ortographic projection, gno- monic projection, stereographic projection, cylindrical projection, conical projection 1
The Golden Section
Moravcová, Vlasta ; Šarounová, Alena (advisor)
Title of the master's thesis: The Golden Section Author: Bc. Vlasta Chmelíková Abstract: This text has been written especially as an educational material for secondary school teachers of mathematics and descriptive geometry, however it can be interesting also for students of secondary schools and universities and for another persons interes- ted in problems of the golden section. The thesis includes a calculation and properties of the golden number, several construction methods of the golden section, its occurence and use in plane and solid geometry, history of the golden section and its connections with art, architecture, nature, psychology, etc. In addition, there are added examples from older textbooks and proposals of the jobsheets for improvement of the mathematics lessons.
Teaching geometric series through CLIL method with using of German language
Korcová, Aneta ; Moravcová, Vlasta (advisor) ; Hromadová, Jana (referee)
The core of the thesis is the realization of three lessons of mathematics conducted in accordance with the CLIL method, which integrates the teaching a non-linguistic subject with foreign language teaching. The topic of the lessons was non-finite geometric series and the chosen foreign language was German. The first part of the thesis introduces key definitions and theorems concerning sequences and geometric series. Comparisons are drawn between approaches of the Czech Republic and two German-speaking countries, Austria and Germany, in relationship to the teaching non-finite geometric series. Furthermore, available teaching materials of the selected countries are compared and applied visualized problems which appear in them are analysed. In the second part, the CLIL teaching method is presented together with the methodology according to which the lessons were prepared, realized and subsequently assessed. To conclude, the thesis presents a detailed analysis of the preparation and progress of the lessons, including the reflection. The appendix comprises of the utilized teaching materials as well as a range of the solved problems.
Orthogonal axonometry for secondary schools
Janišová, Lenka ; Moravcová, Vlasta (advisor) ; Surynková, Petra (referee)
This work, which is intended for secondary school pupils and teachers, is fo- cused on orthogonal axonometry for pupils and teachers at secondary schools. The thesis consists of exercises, some of them are stepped in presentations and can be found on the attached CD. Templates of models that students can build themselves are included in the first exercises for better understanding. The text is supplemented by the development of orthogonal axonometry and an analysis of the current state of orthogonal axonometry education in the Czech Republic, based on a questionnaire survey and an analysis of textbooks. The theoretical part of the work was prepared for publication on the website. 1
Exactness of geometric constructions
Skálová, Zuzana ; Moravcová, Vlasta (advisor) ; Halas, Zdeněk (referee)
The topic of this thesis is exactness of geometric constructions. The first chapter outlines the importance of exactness in drawing and different methods, that were used to get more accurancy in drawing in the past. The second chapter describes in detail several constructions contributing to accurate drawing. These auxiliary con- structions solve frequent problems, for example a need for drawing an intersection point of two lines forming a very small angle etc. The last chapter describes a research realized with middle and grammar school students. The aim of the research was to determine whether the auxiliary contructions really have a positive impact on the accurancy of drawing. 1
Analytic and synthetic approach to metrical tasks in space solving
Kreslová, Iva ; Moravcová, Vlasta (advisor) ; Halas, Zdeněk (referee)
The diploma thesis deals with metric tasks in space, using synthetic and analytical geometry. In addition to explaining the different approaches, there is a set of examples to practice. The solution of the examples is part of the Portal of High School Mathematics (Portál středoškolské matematiky), where we can and analytical solutions, synthetic numerical solutions and synthetic constructional solutions.
