This thesis is a study of one of the greatest violinists of the 19th century, Joseph Joachim. The person, his compositions and the collaboration between himself and the many composers that composed for him will be examined from a variety of perspectives. In addition, the violin school that he created with his assistant Andreas Moser will be analysed. Here we will see his pedagogic actions, as well as his music aesthetics and his method of interpretation. In particular it is this, his ground-breaking new interpretation that makes him to be one of the most important musicians of his time. The goal of the thesis is to show a portrait of Joseph Joachim in the context of music history.
